I have a stable PC running 19.4 full, running nicely, booting from a rotating HD. Then I added an SSD and installed 21 full, with a view to migrating to it from 19.4 when satisfactory.
I set the user to auto login in the user manager but this is ignored by Grub, no matter which install I select in the Grub menu, either 19.4 or 21, I am now obliged to go through the login screen process.
This can happen if the user you set for autologin is not the general, default user.
Please go to Control-centre > session > Login manager
and make your settings there.
Not grub controls the autologin, but slimski separately for each installation.
