Hi dukester,
when things go haywire, almost always my fault for messing with things I only semi understand
I grab my known backup and reinstall, then make changes until I figure out the where and (sometimes with help)
why my system is not working as I hoped for.AntiX is generaly boringly reliable. That is a compliment.
The least troublesome distro I have used and supported over many years with linux.

Since nobody has reported the same issue(s) as you, all we can conclude is that you have done something to create the issue(s) you have.

I hear you! Frustration is setting in at my end. My cancer issues (Agent Orange-Viet Nam) are kicking my butt as I’m tryimg to work through these issues. But I’m not backing up OR backing out! I’m going to upgrade to v22-full as soon as I feel a bit better. Thx for your input!

Use of Agent Orange really was a crime against humanity.
It was pronounced “safe” by the Canadian government after testing at one of their Army base. It was purchased and used by the US Armed Forces on that basis. When they discovered just how dangerous it was, they quit using it. I begrudge Canada – my country – for fast-tracking their bullshit tests. I repeat – when they knew better, they did better.
Anyway, this Marine is going to get to the bottom of this issue come hell or high water! 😀 Thx again!!

antixbox#I never heard of “root” being denied anything! What am I missing here?
That’s one of the apps from the Control Centre that refuses to launch.BTW, Control Centre/Software/antiX Updater asked me for my password and ran OK.
Then I tried to run Control Centre/Software/Repo Manager but No Joy!I know!!! /usr/local/bin/antixcc.sh runs gksu and not gksu -k. Would it break things if I edited that bash script? I’m using zsh as a shell – would that matter at all?

/usr/share/applications/repo-manager.desktop is not executable. The command that is embedded in that file appears to be:

Right! Sorry for the noise! Got it to work using gksu -k repo-manager
It’s the issue that my environment is not being preserved by default. Some setting got hosed!

Take a vacation and visit Con Dao which was a prison Island used by French then US, read the history.
Look at the kids with extra fingers, toes on their hips, one arm 3 arms huge tumors at 3 school age.
A horror show and the people get no help from the inhuman Btards who left the Island with Polluted Ground,
Poisonous Water to this day. Take a walk in the forest and leave obvous pathways. A maiming popup grenade
or a mini to tear your foot to pieces will probably end your vacation. Devices aimed to maim not kill.I think Putins invasion is disgusting, US history is at least as as bad.

@dukester: Sorry to read and find out about your health issues, especially if they are from an agent of war. Weapons of destruction are terrible; I don’t care where they come from. I’m grateful for my personal freedom, but did it really have to come at such a great price? I truly hope that all countries, war or not, are more considerate of the innocent people affected, especially families with children!
Regarding the issue you are facing, by any chance do you still have the live media used to create the system you have?
If so, is it possible to login using it, then use it to compare files and directories with the installed instance?If you can find differences, maybe that will provide clues.
Alternatively, if that doesn’t work, I suggest backing up files you want to keep onto removable media, then reinstall, update to current packages, test and make sure those updates work, then restore your files once satisfied.
Those are two viable ways to resolve your issue; I sincerely hope that one of them works, and in the meantime, I pray for your comfort and peace in the midst of life changing matters. Blessings always.

I agree! Especially considering WW1 & WW2. “War IS hell! And combat IS a SOB!!” If only Jane Fonda and her ilk had had the courage and fortitude to beg a private word with Nikita Khrushchev and now Putin and before them all Herr Hitler – then maybe so many people would not have perished and others suffered! What can we all now say to Mr Putin to convince him to leave the Ukraine. What words to we use to convince the Taliban to quit? How should we convince Iran to stay home and live in peace with its neighbors? That’s why peace IS so expensive!! There’s zero way to convince those leaders mentioned to cease and desist. If there’s a bully in your local school molesting your daughter, are you going to sit by and let her suffer those cruelties? Some would I suppose, but a lot us can’t abide to let that happen. If the UN was effective, and countries could work out their issues successfully that would be the answer. However, to date the UN has not succeeded in doing so. It’ll never happen! So when the bullies push, we have to push back. Sad but true. BTW, it might come as a surprise to some, but I’ve had more expatriate Vietnamese thank me for trying to save their country than anyone could imagine.
Anyway, enough politics!! Thanks for the suggestions about solving my current problem. If anything, I’ll be upgrading to v22-full or something. Thanks again!

I can be a “glutton for punishment” at times, seeking to spend hours to locate and resolve specific issues, but in my case, I have multiple computers and multiple OS installed on a couple of them. Then on top of that, I have CDs and DVDs for old computers and numerous USB devices and images for newer devices, so no matter what I am using I have multiple options. When I have nothing better to do I can experiment, but this redundancy never leaves me without a working system – oh yeah, these days both my wife and I have a smartphone AND a Chromebook in addition to all these Linux test systems. Only a few are recent, but there are options.
That said, I started learning about computers in 11th grade prior to college, thanks to my Algebra/Trigonometry teacher, who planned to teach an introductory computer course the following year; he took our Trig class to the GM Tech Center’s Research Laboratory Computer Center to “interest us” in the technology, and indeed it did! So ever since I have used computers.
When Linux first came out I was on a leave of absence from my office, but I still had technology and computer magazines and learned about Linux, and I had between 10-15 years of UNIX experience, including an assignment as a Systems Administrator, which gave me more than ample experience to read and learn. The first time I installed Linux – an early version of Slackware Linux, I had already purchased and read a book to prepare myself for what was needed; it was straightforward because of this background and preparation.
It’s been the same ever since; the prior experience and background prepares me well for whatever is coming next.

I hear you! I’m like a dog with a bone puzzling out issues. My first *nix install was FreeBSD way back when, in its Walnut Creek days. Next was a very early version of bsd-ish Slackware. Nowadays, I’m just trying to keep the grey cells churning. I’m slowly learning the Go language. It’s been a hoot – as an amateur hobbyist. Fly fishing for wild trout in cold mountain streams always got in the way! 😀

C has long been my primary programming language but it’s been since the 90s when I last frequently used it, so 1982-1999 were the prime time for my C programming.
Including scripts, sh, ksh and bash have been my tools of choice with bash the overwhelming one used the most.
I’ve only dabbled with Perl, Python and yad, with yad graphical interface calls through bash,

It’s not too bad so far. I’m fair-to-middling with C as well, and I think that I may prefer it once I get into Go a little more. All this GC stuff worries me at times. If a person is careful leaves the pizza, beer and “joints” alone while coding, then releasing memory ASAP is not a big deal. 🙂 I running zsh and have hacked a few scripts in it, but I think that I prefer ksh. I liked Perl4; totally hate Perl5 and OOP.
