I realize that for a software distribution with a worldwide presence that not everyone uses the same “calendar of the year”, but for many, if not most of us, we recognize the new calendar year 2022. For others, the exact day and month will vary, but we do have a different season, either here or approaching.

May each person who visits here and/or uses our distribution enjoy a successful year ahead. In fact, across systems, political differences, racial differences, or whatever it may be, at least for me, I recognize our humanity. While I am not a friend of everyone, I have regard and respect for all. I do not care what your ethnic origin is, whether we look and act in a similar or a very different way. In fact, unlike a lot of people, I embrace differences, cultural differences, faith differences, people who use technology, people who dislike technology, those who don’t understand Linux and know only Windows or Mac – or whatever it may be.

If I have any wish or hope to share, it’s that despite all of our differences, we may find a place in our hearts to respect, allow, and appreciate our differences. Sure, I like what kind of things I do and who I am, but at the same time, I am extremely grateful that each person is alive, and distinctly different. I embrace people of different colors, beliefs and preferences. For those I do not know or understand, I pray that any hidden or remaining prejudices that may lurk beneath the surface in me may be healed and that my own willingness to cleanse myself may open even one other person to consider doing the same.

I love one song that says: “We all bleed the same…”. I don’t expect everyone to have perfect unity. I know that there are many selfish people out there, but if even one such person softens their heart this year, this world can be a better place; may it be so even this year.

Enjoy antiX, share kindness with others, and if each one of us “makes peace” with one or more people who are very different than we are, we will continue to make this a better place – this distribution, and who knows, in small (even big) ways, the world around us. As John Lennon once said: “People say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one”. I do not move in the same directions as Lennon, but in this point, we can “pay it forward” by sharing acts of kindness to others, both random and purposeful; it’ll make a difference.

I think this place, this forum, even though it’s focus is on software, is a good place that practices kindness and respect.
