I am very happy with antix-19 – it is a very nice adaption of debian, thanks a LOT.
But, I have a few a little annoying things:
1. How do I set default applications? E.g. how do I determine which program should open pdf-files?
2. How do I fix it so that open programs do not switch workspace? E.g. hitting a link in thunderbird should not move firefox to the same workspace as thunderbird.
3. Have you any suggestions about power management? It is not good that the pc is not properly halted when out of battery.
4. How do I permit my users to write to usb-sticks without they being root?
(I considered to issue 4 new topic, but I thought these topics too small.)
Thank you.

::for #4, you would need to make sure the usb is formatted such that the user can access it. fat32 and ntfs get there permissions spoofed so that the user that mounted the device has the permissions to write to it. an ext4 or other linux format would have file system permissions still in place. I usually just make a subfolder on the stick that any user can write to for these scenarios.
for 3, some folks have had success using xfce4-power-manager for that kind of thing.

::1/ Controll Center set default applications, you can also set system defaults in /etc
2/ If you set applications to open to a particular workspace by default that will solve that issue, you
can autostart your most used apps to a particular workspace. In Icewm, that works reliably.
I guess you are aware that clicking a link in Thunderb might bring an unexpected result, I learnt the hard way. Thb also has a browser included, maybe that starts as Firefox, if so next problem.

::Thank you very much for both answers.
1. I have checked the control center default applications, but it is just a few applications that you regulate there. Also update-alternatives give some opportunities, but not many. In none of these cases, you can control which default application opens pdf-files. There is also a lot of mime-files in /usr/share/mime. I have removed mupdf and qpdfview because they are not sufficient for my use, and I have installed evince, but now it is impossible to open pdf-files from the file manager. Even more confusing, there is stille a link
/etc/skel/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/SendTo/.application_pdf/Open with mupdf
It links to:
/usr/share/applications/mupdf.desktop
But, mupdf.desktop does not exist any more (probably removed as I uninstalled mupdf). Etc. etc. But, this is not as easy a way to handle mime-associations as we know it from standard distributions. It would be nice to have a simple mime-associations system in Antix.
2. I found somewhere to where it is possible to stop the workspace swithching … but I cannot find it anymore. Fixing a certain program to a certain workspace seems a bit clumsy … But, anyhow thank you.

::Seems you will have to work on Systemwide settings:
1/ sudo update-alternatives –config x-www-browser as an example helped me set my system wide Browser to Palemoon. You may need to
experiment to point to your choice of applications.2/ fixing a programm to workspace feels anything but clumsy to me, just efficient.
For day to day use I start Claws mail LO Writer, Calc and Browser.
on dedicated workspace with my preferred window size, Boot up Login and ready to work. Claws gets my mails and filters them automatically
including deleting mail from known spammer addresses. Browser opens what I set and if wished for I can immediately continue working where
I left in office packets.
Switching workspaces with Alt one to 6 I have 6 available is lightning fast.
Using different users allows much flexibility and keeps for example School separate from Private and an extra Multimedia user where
Firefox runs with a somewhat relaxed profile to allow Netflix usage.
All profiles are setup with same mechanism to avoid mucking around mouse clicking to start then setting window sizes, do it once
setup Ice and wmctrl and forget.April 25, 2020 at 2:45 am #35279Member

::For non FM things (from inside programs), Moddit’s solution is the good one.
If using ROX filer, as you said, you need to edit ~/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/MIME-types
http://rox.sourceforge.net/desktop/node/135.htmlif using SpaceFM, right-click the file and, in the Open submenu, choose what program to open, then set it as the default application.

::I’m pretty sure Dolphin Oracle posted how to videos for both Rox-Filer and SpaceFM. He has posted many other excellent How to videos related to antiX and the various packages and options as well. Those are worth searching out…
