This isn’t a huge pressing issue, but I’m mildly curious.

So when I d/l something that has an MD5 or SHA-256 I’ll usually use a site online to verify it within my browser:
      http://onlinemd5.com/

It’s convenient because I don’t have to stare at two strings to compare, and it’s old habit.

Anything I test on it, it verifies the hash just fine.

      EXCEPT… the antiX ISO

I wanted to do a clean 19.4 install and it just didn’t match the hash text files on the download sites. MD5 or SHA-256. Reports a completely different value.

I was about to give up but on the computer doing the downloading (Linux Mint/Win 10) I remembered I had a right-click file manager menu option to check SHA-256, so for poots and giggles I did.

      Matched right up.

antiX is the only thing I’ve come across that doesn’t give the right result on the online checker. And the right result on a different checker?

Am I missing something? Is there some kind of change to the way hashes are checked, that would mostly still work, but not the antiX ISO?

I don’t know how the webpage does its hash, but maybe it fails while uploading the file.
The md5sum works the same everywhere. You have seen how the file manager lets you check, and it uses the same algorithm. If it matches on the computer, it is OK.
I wouldn’t worry about figuring out why the website fails.

Oh I’m not worried- just curious. And I very nearly didn’t use the ISO because of that, until it occurred to me to check using the system’s built-in SHA-256 checker. It might scare someone away. I’ve used that web page for a long time and this is the only file it screws up on so far.
