Doesnt sound very interesting, it is.
In depth information about a company from USA remaining as obscure as possible while
harvesting sensitive user data through a high tech backddoor. Setup was maybe still is
is included in fairly harmless sounding applications many of which were installed through
google play store. It seems unlikely that only play store users were targeted, a number of
alternative app stores offer apk originaly downloaded from playstore for non google users.
Examples, aptoide, apk pure, apk purer and for sure others…Play store is safe, yet again conclusive proof that is not the case.

::Read it till my eyes crossed. Gotta admit. Most of it flies over head.
I am pretty conservative on my phone use. Not a lot of playstore stuff downloaded on mine.
Use mine mostly as a gps or router on the motorcycle.
Close friends that call can be counted on one hand.
I turn off wireless on it when I travel.
I stay off free wifi hot spots except for Texas rest areas free wifi.
Besides. I am packing a small netbook when I need wifi and travel. Like I said though.
My phone can give me free wifi on my antiX or Chromebook netbooks.
My data plan is pre-paid for in the bill.Used to run a Verizon Jet Pack before I figured out the phone.
Wife handed me that and paid the bill also. Now I just use the phone.
She figures if she keeps a umbilical cord on me when I travel. Then she won’t have worry when and if I get arrested, or hit by a car.I used to survive with , ” can I use your phone? ”
Then hacked and unlocked a Blackberry phone and used H20 wireless sim card for the contract. They use at&t towers on the cheap.
After that. She decided I needed to upgrade my gear. So now on a Samsung S10E 4G (not 5G) phone that sits mostly on the charger all day. Thanks for heads up though I got lost there. 🙂

::Hi roki,
yes some of the explanation is pretty headbending, especialy the way the spyware decryption works. Very advanced
and the company behind it may well be an agency front. In any case it is US disclosure laws bound, as is spy store, er
playstore which tracks users more closely than a stalker his victims.I get most of my applications from FDroid where the code is reviewed, as well as the build made and checked for being reproducable
before an application is made available. But my base system is from google, modified, added tracking from the phone maker.
what is in the radio module is anybodys guess.I do my best to controll application connections using net guard from M Bokhorst Git version includes ad blocking.
When you can see that base system of your phone trys to connect to 80 or more servers, some every time you tap the screen, you will
begin to understand why you have to charge the phone so often.April 12, 2022 at 10:44 am #81129Memberezno
::Wow. That’s some scary stuff. I’ve been working at removing myself from the surveillance ecosystem because of stuff like this. Has anyone had any experience with alternatives like the Pine Phone?

::@ezno, it works decently. Time spent / experience is mostly with mobian (there are several other builds to try; ubports I think has the most polished interface). Quite a bit slower as the software is not 100% optimized for the hardware. The layout of some applications will be bigger than the screen space available (as they are natively desktop apps). The microphone is really quite sensitive. Battery lasts ~ 1 day with light use (using later revisions of hardware), if you are making several phone calls or watching videos the battery life plummets. The phone also gets quite warm with extended use (phone call over 10 min) and when it starts to warm the quality of the call drops. If you are using sound on one application and get a phone call the sound from the application will get routed into the call. Likewise if you receive a call while on a call the “ringing” will be heard in the call by both yourself and the person you are talking to. The alarm/clock/stop watch sound is extremely quite and no way easy way to change this as far as I can tell. The email app works but it is not the easiest one to work with IMHO. The maps application (gnome-maps) is static (no turn by turn navigation) and is one of the applications that show as being primarily desktop oriented. Emergency calling / short codes do not appear to work here (911, 411, 611, etc). No way to block callers aside from making an script to automatically hang up at the moment (from what I read). There is not too much activity on the forum, most of this happens in a matrix chat as far as I understand.
Overall I like it and the progress being made.
Is it worth trying out? I would say so.
Can I recommend it to a non technical person? No not really.
Can you expect it to be on par with other phones for function? No not really
Can you do whatever you want with is? Most definitely
Can you attach it to a monitor / keyboard / mouse and use it like a computer? Yep, a slow one though. Not sure what the pinephone pro or librem phone are like.
