::LXterminal is fine, but very limited in features. I also doesn’t support transparency under plain fluxbox.
This is the first thing i do when installing , if i want to use testingrepos, prior to dist-upgrade. I set lxterminal to hold to keep the stable variant, just because of the fake transparency.
lxterminal from stretch uses libgtk2 and the one from buster uses libgtk3 and the fake-transparency doesn’t work any moreNovember 9, 2018 at 8:57 am #13270Anonymous
::We can expect roxterm “latest version” will be undesirable.
A while back, when working on rox-filer I checked the prospect of also forking roxterm
https://github.com/realh/roxterm/commits/master/debian/control
and discovered that its later versions (compared to the version present in debian8 // antiX16)
— dropped gtk2 support
— use libvte2.91 (no transparency/opacity) and “depppppacate” other roxtern features related to libvte-2.90 functionalityZero remarkable bugs were reported against the older version, and only 1 bugfix (insignificant, regarding callback in response to new tab events) is present in later roxterm version… so I decided it’s not (yet) worth the effort to fork ~~ just keep using the (debian8 // antiX16) version.
FWIW, Deepin project maintains a fork of the libvte2.91 package which is patched to restore transparency support. I haven’t investigated whether that can cleanly serve as a drop-in replacement for use in antiX.

::I had a very frustrating day today. My new Antix17 deteriorated with every new boot: hangups in Spacefm, Firefox and other programs… Unetbootin and Live USB Maker no longer working. I had to make a unetbootin stick with my old Antix15 system, and that one gave an error message when booting from it (‘Not a com32R image’). Wasted lots of time, but in the end I had a clean Antix 17.2 (x64) install from the iso, without any customisation whatsoever of the live system before install. For the moment I don’t have any problems at all. Startup and shutdown times are as good or even better than with Antix15 32 bit (45 sec. and 1ess than 10 sec. respectively). This is what I’ve done so far:
Installation Antix 17.2 ======================= * Clean install from iso with unetbootin * Root partition says Antix 17.1! $ inxi -Fxz System: Host: dokux Kernel: 4.9.126-antix.1-amd64-smp x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 6.3.0 Desktop: IceWM 1.4.2 Distro: antiX-17.2_x64-full Helen Keller 4 October 2018 base: Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) Machine: Type: Desktop Mobo: ASUSTeK model: P5QL PRO v: Rev 1.xx serial: <filter> BIOS: American Megatrends v: 0902 date: 11/28/2008 CPU: Topology: Dual Core model: Intel Core2 Duo E7400 bits: 64 type: MCP arch: Penryn rev: A L2 cache: 3072 KiB flags: lm nx pae sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 ssse3 bogomips: 11177 Speed: 1870 MHz min/max: 1603/2800 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 1870 2: 2136 Graphics: Device-1: NVIDIA G98 [GeForce 8400 GS Rev. 2] driver: nouveau v: kernel bus ID: 01:00.0 Display: server: X.Org 1.19.2 driver: nouveau unloaded: fbdev, modesetting, vesa resolution: 1280x1024~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: Gallium 0.4 on NV98 v: 3.3 Mesa 13.0.6 direct render: Yes Audio: Device-1: Intel 82801JI HD Audio driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus ID: 00:1b.0 Sound Server: ALSA v: k4.9.126-antix.1-amd64-smp Network: Device-1: Qualcomm Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 Gigabit or Fast Ethernet driver: ATL1E v: N/A port: cc00 bus ID: 02:00.0 IF: eth0 state: down mac: <filter> Device-2: D-Link System DWA-140 RangeBooster N Adapter(rev.B1) [Ralink RT2870] type: USB driver: rt2800usb bus ID: 2-3:4 IF: wlan0 state: up mac: <filter> Drives: Local Storage: total: 3.68 TiB used: 358.94 GiB (9.5%) ID-1: /dev/sda vendor: Western Digital model: WD5000AAKS-00UU3A0 size: 465.76 GiB ID-2: /dev/sdb vendor: Intel model: SSDSA2CT040G3 size: 37.27 GiB ID-3: /dev/sdc vendor: Samsung model: HD753LJ size: 698.64 GiB ID-4: /dev/sdd vendor: Western Digital model: WD6401AALS-00E8B0 size: 596.17 GiB ID-5: /dev/sde vendor: Kingston model: SV300S37A120G size: 111.79 GiB ID-6: /dev/sdf vendor: Western Digital model: WD20EZRZ-00Z5HB0 size: 1.82 TiB RAID: Hardware-1: VIA VT6421 IDE/SATA Controller driver: sata_via v: 2.6 bus ID: 05:02.0 Partition: ID-1: / size: 36.44 GiB used: 2.90 GiB (8.0%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/sdb1 ID-2: swap-1 size: 2.02 GiB used: 0 KiB (0.0%) fs: swap dev: /dev/sde2 Sensors: System Temperatures: cpu: 38.0 C mobo: N/A gpu: nouveau temp: 69 C Fan Speeds (RPM): N/A Info: Processes: 205 Uptime: 16m Memory: 3.86 GiB used: 476.4 MiB (12.0%) Init: SysVinit runlevel: 5 Compilers: gcc: 6.3.0 Shell: bash v: 4.4.12 inxi: 3.0.25 * Make links in home folder * Configure wifi: OK * Edit /lib/udev/rules.d/97-hid2hci.rules to support my Logitech keyboard and mouse * Change fluxbox style to Radiant (normal) * Reboot to test keyboard and mouse (OK) * Edit fstab and mount all partitions. Reboot (OK) * Copy configurationfiles for fluxbox and conky Background of the conky window changes more slowly than in Antix15 * Startup timed: ~45 seconds - Shutdown timed: less than 10 seconds (the same or even slightly better than Antix 15)I can confirm that the conky background is changing more slowly then in Antix15. And maybe I know why. In Antix15 I had Conky 1.10.2. Now Synaptic says I have Conky-legacy-all 1:1.9.0-6. So it seems I have a different versionn of conky after all.

::old roxterm now available in the antiX repos.
Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
