@argonaut459: also known as Julian, welcome to the antiX forum.

Hopefully the tips, tricks, tutorials, and suggestions are helpful. Even if they are 1-2 years old, they are generally helpful and continue to have generally accurate information.

If anything does change, it’s worth discussing it to determine if the suggestion, technique, or tip has information that has either changed, is inaccurate, or a specific setup has something that needs an update or correction. In such cases, it’s worth discussing it to determine whether there is a problem, or if a particular script, tool, or package has changed. If and when that happens, the more specific information we have, the more likely it is that we will have an effective exchange of information here that will lead to improvements and practical application. We always welcome this kind of discussion.

I share this as general information, and I’m happy to see you in the antiX Forum!

OMG, sooo many replies and warm welcome. I admit I didn’t expect that ๐Ÿ˜€ *happy*
I read some of PPCs threads already, found some info I was looking for.

To all the other replies, I have to postpone till I got a bit more time on my hand.

Thinking a bit about what I want from this laptop, I figured it is snappyness or speed. Foremost, than almost as important ease of use, so I don’t have to adjust when I switch between PCs or phone.
Eyecandy or brushwork isn’t high on the priority, though one thing that was bugging me right away was the blinding bright system AntiX comes as ๐Ÿ˜€
Took me some time to get it darker, and right now, the bright falkon browser is hurting my eyes ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ll get a bit more in detail, probably in a dedicated thread.

no still doens’t like my quick info report, so here it is as a txt file.

          Cheers

            I forgot to ask.
How do I change my avatar here in forum?

To enter an avatar or some kind of image, click on the current avatar, which should bring you into your profile.
From there, visit the Edit tab; near the bottom there is a way to import images or select an avatar or other form of graphic.

              As far as info goes, there is more than one way to do it; the way I typically do it is “old school”;
I open a terminal window and use the information tool (either inxi or the development version that I’ve downloaded, pinxi).
I select the options, such as inxi -b – basic information, inxi -v2 – slightly more information, and so on, depending on what I want to look at or display.
The inxi tool itself provides the available options; inxi -h will share verbose information about many of the available options; looking around our forum, including my thread, “What are you here with…” shows many examples.

I hope that provides a little help; reading, reviewing, and trying out commands and their options in the long run is the best teacher. Best wishes!

After I obtain the information I want to share, I select and copy the region of the output I want to share, paste it into this forum typing area, then I usually select the information (highlight it) and press CODE – one of the options above the text entry box in which we write our content; this puts a box around the information, as opposed to attaching a file; it’s handy for moderate amounts of plain text to include in our replies — example here, even though I happen to be logged into openSUSE Tumbleweed at the moment!

Isn’t it something that we all read the topic for DAYS and it doesn’t occur to us –

GREAT and GREET are both words – and they BOTH describe aspects of this forum and its participants.

Welcome to the forum and antiX.

I have a similar netbook, an HP Mini 110-3700. It only has 1 GB of RAM. But I think antiX runs pretty snappy on it. It came with Win 7 Starter and that was a dog! I put Vector 7 and Kununtu on it before I found antiX. Boith of those distros ran great compared to Win 7 Starter. But when I put antiX on it there was an obvious difference in performance. Yes, snappy. I also run MX on it. Nearly as snappy as antiX.

Ease of use is a matter of perspective. Some folks may not find antiX as easy as some other distros. But I came from a DOS/Windows 3/Win XP background and found antiX was a very good fit to what I was used to. It’s not as close to a MAC or Gnome interface as some seem to prefer, or as easy as iOS or Android for others. But it is modifiable and can be made to suit your own tastes.

Eye candy is also subjective. Take a look at some of the threads showing user’s screen shots. There is some pretty impressive stuff visually.

                          Good luck.
