I recently was looking for the perfect Linux distro for a 15 year old HP Pavilion dv1000 (dv1240us) that I upgraded the ram from 1GB to 1.5GB on, has a Intel Pentium M 735 (the one that has PAE support but doesn’t show it in the flags!) and currently a 40GB HDD. Soon to be upgraded to an SSD, through an mSATA to IDE adapter, plus the special adapter this computer needs. Since it has no PAE flag, I can’t install much. Then I found antiX. AntiX was the SOLUTION! Now it’s very fast when web browsing with Firefox and playing my archived iTunes music library. I also use Pale Moon a lot but I also have to use Firefox because of DRM when I want to play some music from Spotify. I’ve taken it apart many times. I saved this computer from a thrift store for $5, plus a charger from eBay for $11, and a 1GB stick of DDR RAM from eBay for $15, plus a $6 mSATA to IDE adapter. Haven’t yet gotten an mSATA SSD for it yet.
TL;DR: antiX works great on even 15 year old computers!
Very happy with it!
Still need to get a Wi-Fi adapter. For now I’ll just connect via Ethernet.

::I love these old computer resurrection stories; I think I’ve written a few in my day too, but I’ll say more again about three of my latest “cast off” collectibles in the near future; meanwhile a “teaser”: among THREE “throw out” computers that I saved from my brother in law’s would be “send to the dump collection, I got two HP models and a VERY GOOD Lenovo (ex IBM) Thinkpad X201 – that model, no matter how old or “tank-like” in construction it may be, it’s every bit as good (maybe BETTER in some respects) than the solid Dell Inspiron 5558 that I am using at this very moment – truly a great one to SAVE from the recycle bin!
Glad to have you with us, enjoying antiX with hardware that OTHER people retire, but we continue to use – many of which are in their second or third DECADE of use! Great contribution!
