::Hello Rob,
welcome to the antiX forum which is a good forum, i think.
If don’t already do, you can read the PPC’s how-to in the tips and tricks section, the anilkagi’s how-to in the same location, the Spartak77’s guide in Documentation section.
Read too https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/how-to-search-for-a-solution-when-you-have-a-antix-problem/ and https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/how-to-get-help-with-an-antix-problem/ threads.
And to finish, this thread which should be the first : https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/general-forum-conduct/Good luck in this new life with Linux and antiX.
Glad to have you with us.
Best to you.
ps : English is not my native language, so forgive me if I made any syntax errors.
Vive antiX !

::Hi and welcome – I find that antiX is (with some previous configuration, that’s even slightly increased if your system is not in English) is an almost perfect OS for desktop computing – no matter how slow or how fast your system is…
I never messed with servers but, my reasoning is that if antiX is this good for desktops, it probably will be the same for Servers (so probably there’s no need to switch to another OS for that). If you run into any problem, please post it here (following the guidelines that Rantanplan sent you in the previous post)- most problems here are due to user error/miss-configuration, most sound problems can be solved by installing and enabling pulseaudio, most NVIDIA problems can be solved by installing the correct driver, if you don’t like the default File Manager (a major complaint here- antiX full ships with a more “normie” (tabbed) File Manager zzzfm – you can set it as your default File Manager and save a bit of pain adjusting to the default roxfiler File Manager, etc, etc, etc…
I felt a bit lost, when I initially came to antiX, it was powerful but not very intuitive to use- the user experience increased greatly in this last half dozen years or so… And also documentation here in the forum now helps ease new users into antiX. We also have a Wiki, and several YouTube Videos (from D.O.).P.

::Hello jenkinsroblee.
Welcome to antiX Linux and the forum.
I don’t know how to write in English and I send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything, if your native language is not English, please translate my original Brazilian Portuguese text directly into your language with the help of internet translators.
Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you read these excellent tutorials created by @PPC:
What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum. When I first started using antiX, I read the tutorials that PPC created, these readings saved me a lot of time and I think it saves time for any new antiX user. Your time will not be wasted with these readings, everything will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You won’t waste your time searching the internet or even creating new topics, on the contrary, you will gain a lot of time with these readings.
I recommend you try out desktops that have “zzz” in their name. I usually use zzz-IceWM or zzz-JWM or zzz-Fluxbox (each of these desktops has its own characteristics and consumes more or less resources), zzzFM will be the default file manager for your desktop, it it is very similar to the other file managers of other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access other antiX workspaces, click on Menu, Desktop, Other Desktops and click on the workspace name, instantly the workspace will be loaded.
Whenever you need to ask for help or technical support in this forum, please explain in detail what is happening, don’t mince words, be thorough when writing, tell your computer characteristics such as make and model. If possible, post the result of the command $ inxi -Fxz from the terminal, copy and paste here in the message of the topic that you are going to create in this forum.
When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option “Notify me of follow-up replies via email”, by checking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are replies from topic in question.

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.

::Keep in mind that antiX is Debian based, without systemd. It is quite different from arch.
I tried arch. I was successful getting it running, and it ran for a few weeks until updates came along (arch is a rolling distro) and made a mess of it.
PS: That was a long time ago when the install was via command line. I would hope it has improved since then, but I would bet antiX’s install takes less time by a long shot.

Arch hasn’t changed from your experience. It is why Arch based distros like Manjaro are so popular.

::Welcome to antiX and the forum.
I learned a lot about Linux from this place. Many folks here use more than one distro and I’m sure some use Arch. I used Slackware and Ubuntu a lot before I switched to Debian. I have listened to many who appreciated Slackware as a good server distro, and Debian too.
But if your goal is to use Arch then of course you’ll want to also install Arch. I often setup separate partitions on my computers so that I can have more than one distro side by side. antiX in one parition, Debian in another, Arch in another, Slackware in another.
antiX Core might be the best place to start building a server with antiX. Both Debian and Slackware have iso’s, or installation packages, already setup as server systems. I’ve also used CentOS and Ubuntu server packages in the past.
Good luck in your studies.
