Hello world!
Finally i have installed AntiX on my old laptop Toshiba S5200-801 (from 2004). It was my first laptop and i like it as a museum treasure. Only Windows XP worked there and during the last 5 years it was staying on my shelf like a stone. Today it received the second life! Pentium 4M + 1Gb Memory (the maximum)+tiny usb wifi stick +AntiX made a miracle! I can still read news from internet + play simple card games + work in LibreOffice + listen radio. It is much better then i expected from it.
Thank you!
Alex.

::Welcome!
I’m glad you’re enjoying your AntiX experience. Though, I do wonder if your machine is 32-bit or 64-bit, even though you did say it’s a 2004 laptop. Still, pretty nice that you got something old working again. <3

I am not newbie , but today i have solved a real quest!
1. Originally laptop had 256MB. I got 2 banks for 512MB (1GB) even for free just asking it! This type of memory was so old,rare and useless for the person who gave me them.
2. My laptop’s BIOS does not have the option “Boot from USB” (Only FDD,CD or HDD). So i have to use Plop Boot Manager 5 (booting from FDD) to magically open USB boot option on my laptop and let AntiX-19_i386_Full installation process work properly.
3. This Linux core is too modern for my laptop’s video system, so i had to type “quiet splash nomodest” to start it finally!But after all of this i spent a really great day today with my old good fiend Toshiba (like we did 15 years ago)! AntiX even get the touchbar (it never worked before on WindowsXP) 🙂
My youngest son helped me today and we start to learn some python lessons. They also work fine here. No, i typing this message on completely old hardware, listen music, read my mailbox on gmail.com and work with some business files on it! It is fantastic! Even if i do it quite slow comparing my modern Mac.

At least you have USB 2.0. My oldest laptop T23 was from 2000 with USB 1.1. Slower than CD…
I installed antiX as Frugal on it.- This reply was modified 1 year, 6 months ago by olsztyn.
