Does anyone know why when i click My Documents it points just to thumb nails the same for the Music, Videos files etc? Have reinstalled three times from different mirrors. Two 18.3 editions one from Warwick UK and the other starting with Freedom…. and 19.1 was downloaded from Sourceforge. All three have done exactly the same thing when i want to enter into a file it shows only thumb nails.
Was a long term user of Ubuntu from OS system 9.0 to 17 after that linux Mint. Now i’m thinking of migrating to a light weight Debian distro.
Thought i’d mention to help you out after burning the second image of 18.3 to my laptop the User Manager was downgraded in some way and would not permit capitals in adding a user account password i found that really odd.- This topic was modified 3 years, 10 months ago by md4.

::Are you using Rox-IceWM desktop?
Try to see if you get the same results with SpaceFM-IceWMMenu > Desktop > Other Desktops > Space-Ice
Remember 19.B1 is a betta.

Edit: After reading carefully, I just noticed. Is the problem that all folder open to the same directory or simply that the window title for the folder says (~Thumbs) but you do get to see the content of said folder?

::It’s OK apology I can create a file but cannot transfer them from a usb even though they had Mint read and write open permissions. Using another computer at the moment will get back to you –setting up firefox in Antix. Like to alter the configs carefully.
Reinstalled Antix 18.3 twice using different source ISO CD’s. Sometimes it easier than spending too long fixing things. Will post the result of your command shortly.
Many thanks.June 25, 2019 at 3:42 am #23815Forum Admin

::The 18 series will be MX Linux, a different, but highly usable, version made in conjunction with our developers.
The 17 & 19beta series are our distro – note that the 19-b1 is in beta testing at the moment, & may still have some problems that need attention.

::Hi it must be version 17 i installed twice i checked first it was Antix 64bit in the listing where i saw the mirror selection. Have been experimenting with trying to copy and paste from a external hard drive and came across a comment — you cannot do this more than one item at a time. After that i’ve seen the comment error can’t copy files to itself. But in Administration mode i came across WRITE PROTECTED ‘/user/share/doc/rox-filter/html/style.css?
This looks like an administration read and write issue. How to i get some holiday pictures and my music compilation on my laptop?- This reply was modified 3 years, 10 months ago by md4.

::You should be able to mount the drive, & copy all wanted files to your /home directory.
The standard file manager should let you highlight all files, & drag & drop them to your home directory.
If you can’t do it as your normal user, try using sudo, but it shouldn’t be neccessary.
If you still have problems, make sure that you got a good download, & that it wasn’t corrupted.

::As fatmac says, you may need higher privileges to move/copy some files.
Option1: ROX filer – enter this in terminal
sudo rox-filer
This will open ROX filer with root privilegesOption 2: Use SpaceFM (Menu > Applications > System Tools > SpaceFM)
File > Root Window
Then you can perform the copy/paste there with root privileges.Coming from Ubuntu you will probably feel more comfortable with SpaceFM.

::My Documents
[..]
when i want to enter into a file it shows only thumb nails.A screenshot might be helpful. What means “enter into a file” ?
How are you accessing the file(s)?
What do you expect should happen instead?
(If using either the rox-filer or spaceFM file manager to browse, I would expect (double)clicking to launch mirage imageviewer, displaying the clicked imagefile in right-pane plus thumnail images for all sibling imagefiles residing within the same directory.)izzit “MyDocuments”, as in, you are accessing files residing on a windows-created partition?

::Hello md4, welcome to antiX forum.
Please help us help you. I am confused with what you are asking. It sounds like you are describing several different things. Are you trying to copy from an external hard drive? or a USB key?
Please post your system info, as already suggested. (inxi -Fxz)
I concur with Xecure – if you are used to Ubuntu you may find SpaceFM easier to manage. Follow the path he outlined to open SpaceFM in root mode. You will see a red band on top to tell you you are in root window.
Your home files are in “Documents”, not MyDocuments. You can put your music in “Music”, under /home/md4/, where “md4” is your username.

::Hi just used sudo rox-filer for the first time and i got it straight a way. Maybe adding the extra security element is a good thing. I was able to drop files without any problems. One thing though how does the update button in toolbar work — it doesn’t seem to boot a window ?
Think this system looks brill and is easy to operate. Still learning.
Thanks once again.- This reply was modified 3 years, 10 months ago by md4.

I had to read this a few time to understand your query. Are you talking about this?:

This menu entry updates the menu when you install a program outside of Synaptic or the antiX Package Installer.
When you install a program the “normal way”, using Synaptic Package Manager or the antiX Package Installer, the system automatically adds it to the Applications submenu (in most cases).
But if you install a program in a different way, it will not automatically appear in the menu, so you need to hit “update Menu” so that the system “finds” the program and adds an entry in the Applications submenu.Coming from ubuntu, you probably know about Synaptic package manager and using the terminal for installing and applying updates, but I will write here a small comment explaining for any newcomer that doesn’t know what is where and need some guidance.
UPDATING YOUR SYSTEM
Method 1: Using the Synaptic Package Manager (easiest).
Control Center > System > Manage Packages
For installing updates, first you have to make the system connect to repositories and update the programs list. then you can Mark all updates and apply them for installation.
Reload -> Mark All Upgrades -> Apply
Once everything is installed, it will let you know. then you can exit and enjoy your updated system!Method 2: Using terminal
Open a terminal and add the next lines to update (I think it is almost exactly the same as in ubuntu):sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgradeOnce finished, exit.
INSTALLING NEW APPS
Method 1: Using antiX Package Installer (easiest of them all)
Control Center > System > Package Installer
There is a small and popular app selection here. Simply search through the categories, tick the box of the interested apps, and hit Install.
Note1: All installed apps will be written in faded text.
Note2: this is the easiest way to update your kernel.Method 2: Using the Synaptic Package Manager
Here you will find the largest selection of apps. The problem is that apps, libraries and other stuff are mixed in. You must know what you are looking for.
If you want to search for applications
Reload -> Search
Once you have found what you want to install, double click it (or right-click, and mark for installation). Once you have selected all packages you want to install, then hit Apply and wait for everything to download and install.Method 3: Using the terminal (intermediate)
You must really know what you are doing. you must know the exact name of theMethod 4: Compiling from source (“expert”)
1 You find the source code.
2 You download it into a folder.
3 You compile it.
Only Debian compatible and only NON systemd dependent.
Follow the instructions whoever created the programs has given to compile it.Other methods:
PPC wrote an article about finding and installing apps. you may find something interesting here too.
