I would just like to say what an awesome distro you have.
My old goto distro used to be crunchbang and Bunsen labs. But this blows it out of the water for speed and memory usage.
Running in a very old eeepc701, just for giggles and that nostalgic feel.

        Welcome to “antiXia”!
Please also don’t forget to take a peek at our unofficial FAQ’s, over at https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/unoficial-antix-23-frequently-asked-questions/
I do run antiX 23 on an Atom netbook with 1Gb of RAM – I advise using a light web browser, like Seamonkey and also, if you have less than 2Gb of RAM, also enabling zram ( sudo zram start ) to make the most of your RAM… also, avoid multitaskting, and use SMtube or similar apps if you want to just watch Youtube!
antiX can really be used as a daily driver, even on such old and under-powered device!

Thank you, funnily enough I’ve found the links 2 to be quite good. Previously I’ve used falcon if I remember correctly. But if I’m not careful I can be quite a tab whore.
I’ve got 2gb of ram, but will look into that too. I believe I can also derestrict the CPU as Asus under clocked it to roughly 600mhz from the 900mhz. I’ve seen others do it on vanilla Debian.

Howdy and Welcome. I got pretty good at fixing left click on touchpads on my eeepcs.

and use SMtube or similar apps if you want to just watch Youtube!

Hello, you want try The Private YouTube Client I think.

I used that on my client’s laptop with 1 Gig of RAM. Works great.

                hint from a practice:
                1. in the player settings just set the ‘legacy format’ and size of video.
                2. use the .AppImage not the .deb

                chmod +x thenameoffilefreeyoutubeapp.AppImage
Use command in your terminal/CLI client, for example use cool and fast ROXterm ^^ means make executable the file.
That will create only 1 dir in ~/.config/FreeTube in your device, nice.

                Github sources here github.com/FreeTubeApp/FreeTube

For lightest weight ytfzf is an excellent frontend for searching youtube.
                  using bash alias as below,
                  alias yt=’ytfzf –pages=3′

just type yt in terminal, search, press tab on
items you want to play, at end of selection press enter. occasional fails
are same with graphical player, i.e. usually html5 file not found or you tube
access denied. You can use own key but will still get same troubles.
Gargoyle (google) wants everyone to enjoy the revenue bringing brash and trashy
advertising which makes using youtube a pain. Calling it YouPuke these days…

                    Hello Chefsnade.

Welcome to antiX Linux and the Forum.

I don’t know how to write in English and I send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything. If your native language is not English, please translate my original Brazilian Portuguese text directly into your language with the help of internet translators and you will get a much better result.

Please read my real welcome in the Welcome to antiX Linux and the forum (antiX 23) and Welcome to antiX Linux and the forum (antiX 19, 21 and 22) thread.

Please learn how to ask for help here on the antiX forum by reading the threads I linked in my real welcome. Please note that there are 3 editions of antiX from series 19, 21 or 22 and 23 that have technical support in this forum. Each edition has 4 ISO images (full, base, net and core) on two different boot system types, SyVinit and Runit. If my sum is not wrong, at the present date there are about 32 different types of operating systems. That’s why you need to learn how to ask for help here on the antiX forum.

Many thx for this very useful info. Suitable for my low end pc(s).

How can I search for a specific topic? (e.g.: “Sinner tennis games” or “chess at the park”)

                      Thx in advance

                        ???
Simply type the topic you want to search… Your text will appear on the first line. Press enter when you finish typing, and the script will search for what you asked.

Open it in urxvt instead of default terminal emulator. Then you can use the mouse wheel to scroll through the listing… Double click the entry and wait for what happens next 🙂 (The clicked entry should play in mpv immediately)

Here you are the full command if you happen to have roxterm running:

                          $ urxvt -e ytfzf --pages=3

Many thanks @Xunzi_23, had complete lost out of sight this really great tool, since it didn’t behave in roxterm (try using the mouse wheel when running it therein), and I wasn’t aware this was not the fault of ytfzf.

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

From such apps I particularly like the ‘Pipe Viewer’ you discovered and brought to our attention recently… IMO it is better than SMTube for less memory footprint, functionality and ease of use…

I also forgot this one… Just as you did, I just started ytfzf in urxvt and it works very nicely… There is another one to download youtube videos but the name escapes me at the moment…

ytfzf, in rox, never had an issue as not a mousewheel scrolling double clicky terminal user. :-).

arrow up arrow down, tab to select, once all selected press enter.

reading the man for ytfzf is very useful, it can do many tricks, searching multiple items inkl.

escaped name, can download . presumably ytdl

Hahaha, yes those left and right click keys are very poorly made. I just use a mouse because I have to press quite hard.
One thing I had noticed is on the track pad a windows os will allow double tap, where the Linux distros won’t. I’m assuming it’s a driver issue.
Have you found a way to scroll up in the main terminal as shift? + Fn + page up doesn’t work. Note it might be ctrl not shift. Either way I couldn’t get it to work!
