      What does cat /etc/antix-version show?
Have you done any remaster of frugal antiX-19.1?

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Please look on the installed antiX19.1 at
        ls /etc/modprobe.d
If there’s still something like live-initrd-blacklist file, please delete it.
Afterwards also delete the /etc/X11/xorg.conf again and reboot.

          demo@antix1:~
          $ cat /etc/antix-version

I dont remember a remaster.Running kernel is 5.5.0.If it is the default in 19.1-sid_x64-core I most probably did not do remaster.

@caprea nouveau is blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d/live-blacklist.conf

            blacklist amdgpu
            blacklist analogix-anx78xx
            blacklist ast
            blacklist bochs-drm
            blacklist ch7006
            blacklist cirrus
            blacklist gma500_gfx
            blacklist hibmc-drm
            blacklist i915
            blacklist mgag200
            blacklist nvidia
            blacklist nouveau
            blacklist qxl
            blacklist radeon
            blacklist tda998x
            blacklist udl
            blacklist vboxvideo
            blacklist virtio-gpu
            blacklist vkms
            blacklist vmwgfx

If I remove live-blacklist.conf or only delete ‘blacklist nouveau’line, X fails to boot lightdm.I got into tty1 and copied back live-blacklist.conf to get x back.

Rgarding remaster may be I did a couple of times. I can remember deleting old homefs and rootfs files. I have a month old snapshot of this 19.1.

                1. Check /etc/modprobe.d/ folder and files to make sure nouveau is not blacklisted in any file.

Removed ‘blacklist nouveau’ line from /etc/modprobe.d/live-blacklist.conf and followed all the steps. If I touch anything in live-blacklist.conf, X fails to boot.

                demo@antix1:~

I have no more ideas left.

Sometimes strange problems pop up, and we can do nothing to solve them.

Good thing you have a backup. If you cannot find any solution at all, then backup your current installed home folder, produce a list of packages installed, and reinstall the frugal from the backup. Then replace the home folder content with the one that was in the frugal installed and all the most important files and configurations should be there.
Then, if you are missing programs, do an apt install to the package list produced on the frugal install and get them all again.

Thankyou so much all of you for trying to solve the issue. I removed the problematic frugal-install and installed the snapshot.Everything back to normal.

Sometimes that is the only way to go.
You did very well doing a backup of your system. I need to learn from you.
