::When plugged into lan as I am now to continue this thread with this laptop, Connman shows the presence of WiFi but I cannot persuade the app to scan or do anything with the wifi while lan is connected.
Make sure that eth0 is not set up in /etc/network/interfaces
For connman, make sure /etc/resolv.conf symlinks to /run/connman/resolv.confMy problem is how to log on to a hidden wifi access point but even those visible and with correct password do not work for me now.
1. Delete all wlan related connections in /etc/network/interfaces. It should look like this:
#------------------------------------------------------------------------------ # /etc/network/interfaces # # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) # Used by ceni but not by connman #------------------------------------------------------------------------------ auto lo iface lo inet loopbackNothing else (reboot just in case).
2. About the hidden access point.
Try in terminal:
connmanctl
It will enable a “mode” where each line starts with conmmanctl>. write one line at a time:enable wifi scan wifi servicesAll available networks should appear. Pay attention to <hidden> tag. Your wifi should look like
<hidden> wifi_blablabla_managed_psk
Copy to clipboard the ssid of the hidden network (wifi_blablabla_managed_psk). Now we will try to connect to it.agent on connect wifi_blablabla_managed_pskIt will ask for your password:
Agent RequestInput wifi_blablabla_managed_psk Passphrase = [ Type=psk, Requirement=mandatory ] Passphrase?write the password, hit enter. If you connect properly, exit the terminal
quit
and see if you internet works. If connman gives you trouble, then install networkmanager, as you originally wanted to:
sudo apt install network-manager-gnome resolvconf
Once installed, remove connman.
sudo apt purge connman cmstremove cmst -m & from startup and add instead
nm-applet &
Reboot
Now, network-manager should be available from the systemtray. Click it and select “Connect to Hidden Wi-fi Network”.
If you prefere the terminal way:From: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NetworkManager
Connect to a hidden network:
$ nmcli device wifi connect SSID password password hidden yesPlease forgive me if I forgot something.

As I understand this is all that is needed to replace Connman with Network Manager? Previously I had also installed network-manager in addition to network-manager-gnome. From your instruction above I understand network-manager should not have been installed, just network-manager-gnome…Edit:
Sorry… Just noticed network-manager is being installed as dependency for network-manager-gnome..
Please disregard my question…

::Red faces here. Am multitasking at work and I appear to removed even my eth0 capability as I had no interfaces.
I have rebuilt the /etc/network/interfaces file but have no idea what permissions should be applied.
please?
Meanwhile I now have Ceni up and running plugged into the lan, have been given an IP in the expected subnet and can ping the router connection and use this subnet from my desktop but have no internet from the laptop.
What am I missing.- This reply was modified 2 years, 9 months ago by Budgie.

How should I rebuild the /etc/network/interfaces file and with what permissions please?make sure there is no softblock
sudo rfkill unblock all
then, launch ceni and try to connect to ethernet with it.After that you should see in /etc/network/interfaces:
#------------------------------------------------------------------------------ # /etc/network/interfaces # # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) # Used by ceni but not by connman #------------------------------------------------------------------------------ auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The primary network interfaces allow-hotplug eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcpIf you need to edit the file, you need root privileges

General Live Boot Parameters for antiX.July 30, 2020 at 11:17 am #39598MemberBudgie
::Hi Xecure,
I have had some very strange problems working with two laptops and by yesterday afternoon I could not get a WAN connection on either machine when connected by copper. Both NICs either using correct static IP for relevant subnet or dhcp can connect and I can ping the def.GW but no internet connection.
There must be some underlying firewall or other protection working following my adventures with the multiple but failed wifi log-ins. This morning one laptop was again able to connect to the internet but the T42, the one I am using with Antix, still will not connect. I am puzzled but meanwhile my Antix machine is incommunicado. I am very reluctant to re-install but do not want to waste your time. With no connections I cannot even follow your detailed instructions above.
If I try and connect by wifi to visible SSID and known passphrase I no longer can connect. Trouble is without a connection I cannot easily share the error messages. Will try for a while this evening and if all else fails, burn a new disk from my desktop and reinstall.

::I see Connman allows me to connect to hidden SSID’s, but since they aren’t mine, I can’t connect to them. When Connman came out in antiX 19 Alpha or Beta, and it was obvious communications would break if both were tried, I used to love it, but swore off using Ceni, and every attempt to use it on my machines since then has resulted in non-working wifi.
If it were me I would start over, backup anything important and reinstall from scratch, and only use Connman to connect until/unless it is proven that Connman won’t work. All the messages from the past 6 months show us that Ceni and Connman do not play nice together, and any mixing of the two will result in trouble.
I’m no Linux guru, but it hurts to see you suffering over something that should be easy…

::I can ping the def.GW but no internet connection
My guess: you have /etc/resolv.con symlinking wrongly.
As I said before, you need to choose ceni OR connman.
ONLY CONNMAN:
Remove all info in /etc/network/interfaces related to wifi and eth0. It should look like capreas post. Also, resolv.conf MUST symlink to /run/connman/resolv.conf
ONLY CENI
Uninstall connman once and for all. Then make sure that /ect/resolv.conf symlinks to /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.confantiX Live system enthusiast.

How to Search for AntiX solutions to your problemsJuly 31, 2020 at 2:15 am #39629MemberBudgie
::Earlier in this thread seaken64 suggested I do new install and after the strange behaviour with my lan connection that has been the only option so I have installed Antix 19.2 base. I have been quite surprised by the difference from my previous install and so will explore and adjust system to suit my preferences.
No real understanding of problem I ran into but it is just possible my connection had been blocked by my Sophos UTM but that is another story!
I shall now work on my original problem taking into the advice given above. From what I have seen during the installation however I find that now both Ceni and Connman are installed and are shown on Control Centre > Network page and from was written earlier I should only use one of these and not swap between.
Will report progress in due course and meanwhile grateful thanks for those who have helped and for an excellent Forum.

::OK so how do I start with wifi. Using Control Centre > Network I have three icons which I can try, Ceni, Connman and WPA Supplicant Configuration. Only from Ceni do I get a sensible response. Given the earlier comments, how should I start to try and get a connection other than Ceni?

::Using Ceni and What I get when I try to log into visible SSID with known correct pw has a line “No working leases in persistent database – sleeping”
No idea why as other laptop can connect without difficulty.
BTW I am sorry I am having trouble copying and pasting here. Must have settings wrong but that is another issue.

::Always use connman first. If you were using
I have installed Antix 19.2 base
Here, to make wifi work, after running connman (and the corresponding icon appears in the systemtray), right-click the icon in the systemtray, switch WIFI to ON, and then you can connect (hold the left-click on the icon and choose the corresponding network).
If you removed connman
sudo apt purge connman connman-ui-gtk
then you first need to fix /etc/resolv.conf before being able to use ceni:1. Remove connman
[…]
2. Delete the resolv.conf sym link in /etc/
3. Create a new symlink in etc like this (in a terminal)sudo ln -s /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf4. Try ceni again
If you still cannot connect, dissable firewall (if you enabled it) just for testing. Until you can connect to the net (test on a wifi hotspot created by your phone if you can do that) with connman or ceni, I would forget about installing network manager. The problem may not be the network software but maybe some driver or some bios setting.

::On my reinstalls on my atom netbook. I found the saved settings on my live usb were causing me problems.
Troubles disappeared when I used the dd option in Live USB maker when making my live pen drive read only.I have had an inordinate amount of frustration digging into similar issues, spending lots of time to identify and resolve issues with Live USB sticks.
Since fully configured and flawlessly working Live USB sticks are IMHO (only my personal view) the key to antiX purpose, I thought debugging these issues were worth my time. Some of my experience:
– Cloning with Live USB maker was very often resulting in failure on both my Thinkpads T410. The same stick cloned well on much older and slower Thinkpad X61.
– My replacing Connman with Network Manager (this thread) on Live USB stick resulted in Live stick, where Network Manager was connecting to network just fine on some of my laptops but on others just was failing to connect to WiFi, no matter what. This behavior was in spite of careful installation, including symlink as prescribed by Xecure and Caprea. Re-installed Connman was connecting just fine. As a workaround I kept both installed, with Network Manager as default. The clue was that on the same machine Frugal instance the Network Manager did not experience any such issue and connected WiFi just fine. It turned out that malfunction on Live USB stick was in result of remastering. Having determined this, after configuring and making sure Network Manager and everything else is working fine on a Live USB stick I cloned this (with Live USB Maker) on machine where it worked reliably (my first bullet point) instead of re-mastering and tested expensively outcome.
All this taught me a painful lesson to have good (multiple) backups of instances that have been proven working, make updates carefully and extensively testing the resulting outcome…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

Mainly because they are untested.Yes, indeed. In general, and appeared to be the case here too, at first…
At the end however I have now perfectly working Live USB antiX with Network Manager, perfectly connecting WiFi on all laptops. I have Connman installed as backup but not connecting. For redundancy.Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):
