I have just discovered antix a couple of days ago when I was looking for
a distro that did not rely on systemd.
I must say the whole experience from installation to configuration
was very smooth. I chose to install with openbox compton slim and
tint2. I added a few features to prettify it a bit, such as bl-exit
a themeable logout manager that one of the devs at bunsenlabs wrote
and the whole experience has just been excellent.
I am very impressed and it’s going to be my distro of choice for
quite some time, I can tell
Anyway. I hope to make a few contributions to the forums and
      look forward to using Antix

Just curious which version you started from?

Ah I just looked and I thought it was one of the minimal versions
it’s actually the full version. I must have got confused as I have,
in my search for a decent distro, experimented with everything from OpenBSD to Devuan,
MX, some systemd free version of Arch. You name it, over the last 2 weeks I have
tried everything. I was using OpenBsd before trying Antix. but I just looked
on the Antix install media and it definitely says full. version 19

anyway I installed openbox as my system crumbles under anything it considers weighty
                    like xfce

                      Welcome aboard. 🙂

I usually install the ‘Base’ version to stay lightweight, lets you add what you want, if you need anything more. 😉

I will do that eventually. At first though I like to discover what the distro devs believe should or should not be in a distro.
Like I said, I was very impressed with it all. It feels like a no-bloat distro but with top quality utilities and setups.
4th day of using it and still amazed by it. It’s turned my browser box from being a heap of old junk running an old dual core CPU with 2 Gig of Ram into a star machine.
I aim to install it on my self build box soon (an i7 2600k CPU with 8 Gig Ram)

Believe it or not IceWM and JWM (2 of the window managers installed by default) are lighter and faster than OpenBox. Fluxbox is probably lighter too, but I’ve never used it enough to make a statement like that about it. I’m not saying they are lighter by a huge amount, but it is noticeable on slower hardware. Openbox is good, too though, having used it on many distro’s myself (KNOPPIX, Manjaro, ArcoLinux, Debian). Obviously you must like Openbox to spend time configuring it, and we all have things we are familiar with and like, so don’t take my comments negatively. I do like different things myself too.

Anyway, the dual core should be fine with any of them. If you run any of them off a fast SSD it will help a lot.

The I7, wait till you see it fly, it will run like greased lightning with antiX….

I tried JWM a long time ago. I really liked it actually but until recently I thought it had to be run with Ruby or something that got taken out of the repos
so I never tried it again. It was so long ago now I think I tried IceWM and it seemed a bit clunky. I do actually like configuring openbox
It sort of makes me feel like it keeps my brain active, like a crossword puzzle that takes ages to complete.
Yeah my i7 cant be switched on at the moment. we are having house renovations and it got full of dust.
I dare not switch it on until I have finished repainting the office room and cleaned all the components in the case.
I never take things the wrong way in forums, simply because I’m not religiously glued to my choices of software or hardware
In fact I will probably get bored of openbox fairly soon and experiment with JWM. Before installing openbox I did toy
with the idea of using herbsluftwm but I took one look and chickened out. It looked way too much like a challenge

I used to use openbox on #!, before it ceased, then I found this great distro & went back to using fluxbox again, which I had been using previously, just habit, I guess – each to their own. 🙂

The more I converse with people on Antix forum, the more I realise what a long and varied road I have taken with Linux
I have definitely tried fluxbox in the past. It has a great theme editor if I remember right, or am I thinking
of blackbox for windows? and I always wondered why openbox doesnt have such a thing.
There are huge disadvantages to using openbox and I dont exactly know why I like it but
when I play chess I love playing the Colle system (It’s a losing game, few ever win using it)
it teaches a great deal about theory and practice. In political elections I always vote for the underdog (it seems)
I like the wilderness, not the city

Forgot to say I used #! back around 2011 – totally loved it
