Thank you @linuxdaddy and @Moddit, that was helpful. I am exploring the free options for now. DeepL will be my choice when I can’t use Chromium or SeaMonkey built-in features.

P.S. I am using otter-browser right now. Very good on CPU and RAM use but I wonder if it has any translate tools built-in like SeaMonkey. I will look around.

I’m sorry to report that otter-browser does not have any built-in tools for translation. And when I tried to use DeepL it would not work. But, it does work at Google-Translate. And it does not peg the CPU with Javascript on, like it does in SeaMonkey. So, otter-browser is at least as useful as SeaMonkey on this 32-bit machine, but only when using Google-Translate and copy-paste between tabs.

So far, Ungoogled Chromium in AppImage is the best option for the automatic translation of forum pages and it also has the ability to print to a “.pdf” file for future consultation of the file. But this solution is only available for 64-bit processors, unfortunately it doesn’t have 32-bit AppImage. Firefox makes computers with 32-bit processors very slow. I hope one day to learn how to create 32-bit AppImage, it would help a lot for 32-bit computer users.

Seaken64, eu estou acompanhando este importante tópico, eu também tenho grande interesse neste assunto que possui o mesmo objetivo do tópico iniciado pelo PPC Como traduzir automaticamente o fórum para português na área em idioma Português. Até o momento o Ungoogled Chromium em AppImage é a melhor opção para a tradução automática das página do fórum e ainda possui o recurso de imprimir para arquivo “.pdf” para consulta futura do arquivo. Mas esta solução só está disponível para processadores 64 bits, infelizmente não tem AppImage de 32 bits. O Firefox deixa os computadores com processadores de 32 bits muito lentos. Eu espero um dia aprender a criar AppImage de 32 bits, isso ajudaria muito aos usuários dos computadores de 32 bits.
I did a search on the forum today for otter-browser and I ran across a reply I made to @PPC some months ago on the topic of using translators. I had forgotten this topic (another old age glitch on my part) but in that thread is a link to

This site uses Google-Translate but it is easier to manage since I can just copy the URL and paste it in and this site renders the page in my browser for me. In otter-browser it works fine for me without pegging the CPU. The CPU is about 40% and RAM is about 300 and I have Geany and zzzFM open also.
So, I think this is the best we can do for old 32-bit browsers. It is a better option than directly copying and pasting to Google-Translate in another tab. Rendering the page in the browser is preferable for me. While not as convenient as SeaMonkeys “Translate Page” tool it is better than the clunky copy-paste routine I was using.

Hello @marcelocripe, Just today I ran across that same topic thread. I had forgotten it. The point I made then was that the browsers I am using on my 32-bit systems do not support the Firefox plugin or support what the 64-bit systems can support. I was looking for a way to support translation in these 32-bit systems.
What I have found out is that 32-bit does work, but only if you have two threads to work with, such as my P4 HT (HyperThread). There is something in the Google Translate and SeaMonkey’s Translate Page tool that eats up the CPU on a single core system. If you use NoScript you can keep the CPU from pegging to 100% but then you can’t use Google-Translate. It’s a catch-22 situation.
The best we can do is use SeaMonkey/Palemoon/otter-browser and use copy-paste between two tabs. The best process seems to be to use the website translation tool at https://www.ipvoid.com/website-translation-tool/. This process does not seems to peg the CPU at 100% even when Javascript is on.
For automatic built-in translation tools we need to use Firefox plug-ins, or Chromium, or SeaMonkey and a two thread (Dual Core) processor, or 64-bit. I have had good results on my P4HT with 3GB RAM and my AMD Athlon 64 X2 with 2GB of RAM. But with regular P4 or P-III we can’t get the easier built-in translation features to work. For those older machines it is copy and paste and probably using an offline editor.

I will note here that I am using otter-browser today but this browser is not as well behaved for using Google-Translate or DeepL. I can not get DeepL to work at all and with Google-Translate it does work but I have to select and copy with my mouse pointer instead of just clicking the copy icon.
SeaMonkey is better behaved on these sites. But SeaMonkey tends to peg the CPU to 100% when NoScript is turned off.
So, it’s not perfect but using these translation sites can be done with some determination. I haven’t tried Palemoon yet so I will do that and see if there is anything different to report.

Well, my solution to get text translated on very low powered computers is not using the “web”, but the tranlation service directly, from the cli, with a GUI… I wrote a small script that uses the “trans” command (installable using “sudo apt-get install translate-shell”) to translate any text to the default system language…
My script, that displays the text in the clipboard translated to the system default language is this:texto_original=$(xclip -selection c -o) texto_traduzido=$(trans -b -show-alternatives n "$texto_original") yad --title="Trans" --fixed --width=700 --height=480 --center --form --field=":TXT" "$texto_traduzido" --button="Ok"Save that script as, for example: “translator.sh”, on your home folder, and make it executable.
You can use a .desktop file to run that script, and place the .desktop’s icon on the toolbar. So, to get an automatic translation, select the original text and copy it, then click the “trans” icon and, in a couple of seconds, get a window with the desired translation…
Pros: very fast and reliable
Cons: it only translates simple text, not the entire web page…P.

That script is a gem!If you don’t mind, (well — it’s too late now –lol) I’ll make a couple small suggestions:
I would suggest adding so that it does not echo to the terminal shell after the yad box is closed. And it would be nice if it would release the shell immediately, for another command (if, say, I want to translate a second post/reply & keep them both open in their own yad box).
(I also want to note that I had to install xclip, as well as translate-shell, as you wrote.)(In any event, I’ll use it as-is. 🙂 Thank you for posting it.)
And push this up to anticapitalista to see if he would like to include it in the repos.
I think this would be a perfect tool for antiX!
EDIT: Also, would it be possible to translate from the system language to another language?

Sorry, I just came across this question here and will answer, even when late, since I myself run 32 bit single core hardware and have some experience what is possible in translation and what is not.
The best solution I found was the plugin traduzir-paginas-web written by Felipe PS. Yes, it runs fine on 32 bit Firefox, and you can (and should) use Ublock origin parallel. The translations are performed really fast and in acceptable (understandable) quality, even on sites google translate wouldn’t be able to translate. It translates literally any site on real time in any tab without corrupting its layout. I have not encountered problems when using multiple tabs.
So this is clearly my favourite, when it is about balance of accuracy and speed. If you need really high quality translation use deepl, as already recommended before by others, but the spectrum of languages is a bit more limited and you’ll have to copy and paste the content to translate when using it. I utilise both methods, depending on the use case. Both work fine on 32 bit hardware.Please take my comment as biased, it is my personal experience only. Other people may have other opinions.
Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.
