      Hi everyone!

      We have been trying to upgrade our smoll buntata to have php 8.1 instead of php 7.4 because we would like to be able to develop php code on the go using this distro!

      Obligatory inxi output:

      $ inxi
      CPU: single core Intel Atom N270 (-MT-) speed/min/max: 1067/800/1600 MHz
      Kernel: 4.9.0-326-antix.1-486-smp i686 Up: 50m Mem: 619.6/2005.2 MiB (30.9%)
      Storage: 149.05 GiB (4.1% used) Procs: 151 Shell: Bash inxi: 3.3.19

      We attempted to add the php repo to our apt repositories only to be met with a not found even though the repo exists.

      Currently attempt is to download the .tar from php official website and using dpkg to install!

      Wish us luck 🙂

      (we are very much a noob and clueless to how antix differs from other distros)

      Thank you for reading!

          I’m glad you were able to solve the problem so quickly.
          As I always say here- if you are trying to install something meant for Debian (that is not systemd or Desktop Environment dependent), the instructions for Debian should work also in antiX.

          For learning how antix differs from other distros, please checkout the sticky posts- basicly antiX is Debian, using a primed kernel, without systemd, and using Window Managers (IceWM, by default) instead of a (heavier) Desktop Envirnoment. It comes with multiple helper scripts, it’s own Control Centre, to perform system management task, and a tiny Package Installer, that acts as a kind of “App Store” for some essential apps and features (like language packs). There are 2 GUI File Managers to choose from rox-filler (more minimal, lighter and sometimes even more powerful) and zzzfm (a more modern looking FM, easier to adjust to, for most people).

          Note: php (version 7.4) should be available in antiX’s Package Installer (under “Servers”)- it’s best to always look in P.I. first, then Synaptic, then trying to install using other methods. If you followed those steps, you did exactly what you should do!

          Please mark this thread as solved, to help future users with the same problem.

          P.
