Considering the current workload versus the amount of work required to package everything from scratch, how close are we to abandoning Debian? What sort of lines would have to be crossed before AntiX would consider switching to a different foundation, or consider going independent? In other words, at what point does it become easier to start from scratch? How many package maintainers would we need to match Debian’s package availability? Would such a deviation be suicide for AntiX / MX / etc..?
Sorry if these are stupid or ignorant questions, but everything Debian does nowadays seems antagonistic and I am tired of holding my breath every time they get ready to drop a bag of hammers in to the works. Also, sorry if this is something that’s already been hashed over a gajillion times.

Hello,
Good question, but before we must to know exhaustively which are theses deviations.May 19, 2019 at 4:31 pm #21852Forum Admin

::In my time of using Linux, around 20 years, I’ve mainly used Debian/Debian based. When they introduced pulseaudio, I started looking around for another distro, but came back, as nothing suited me – but when they made systemd default, I really did consider leaving Debian altogether, & watched Devuan with great interest.
I even used it for several months, (until Debian came to their senses & ‘allowed’ the use of other init systems again).
At that time I also used TinyCore, SliTaz & Salix for evaluation, for a couple of months, whilst keeping OpenBSD as a back up system if Linux went pear shaped.
But the team here got around Debians idiocity, & back I came – this is just one hell of a good distro, & I really don’t want to go elsewhere. đ

Cool. Thanks for the reassurance. I don’t know if I’d still be bothering with Debian if it wasn’t for you guys. I tried out Devuan for a bit and it was okay, but I prefer antiX. Ironically typing this from a beat up old Xubuntu system that’s soon to be antiX’d.

Yeah, our stories are similar. I began using Linux with Ubuntu 4.10 and gradually transitioned to Debian by around 2011. Used it almost exclusively, with a customized Xubuntu on this other machine. By the time I got good at polypaudio removal surgery, they switched to systemd and I simply felt out of my league. Like I said above.. tried Devuan for a bit but I too am an antiX man for the foreseeable future.

I have traveled a little like fatmac mentioned. Being a scooter tramp. I kinda don’t over think stuff till I am experiencing 1st hand what the fuss is all about.
It is the only way I know how to operate. Ghostbsd and me had one of the shortest gnu/linux journeys that I have experienced personally. Did not take me long to break stuff. I handled it like rookie dude coming from windows. Docs can make me sleep/comatose. So I did read up. Figured poke and hope would suffice with a laptop on the side for searching on what bsd terminology linguistics I had not bothered to learn yet. PEBCAK at it’s glorious finest. Being a bull in a china cabinet type of dude. Par for the course, I guess. AntiX and MX seem to be my comfort zone. I like being comfy cozy.
I don’t sweat Debian. Just like I don’t sweat anything else out of my control. I suit up and try it on. Then decide from there.
If I like it. I learn it next. Gotta be proficient to be comfy. If concerned about Debian may do. Unpin systemd on your AntiX test box. I did that. Watch everything in usr/local/bin get ignored after that < dist-upgrade a few times >. Have fun finding the binary blobs instead of text files when trying to fix the /usr/local/bin text files. Get some first hand knowledge on what might scare ya. It is how I roll.
Slackel an Salix fluxbox ran durn good on my touchscreen atom netbooks. Too bad there is unrest in Slackware ranks among the hipster users who are using slackware as street cred. It makes the real hard working supportive slackware users look bad. It takes a lot of work to buck a system against you. They/
have more resources and do some stuff just out of
plain meanness sometimes. All large apps are incorporating systemd calls in their scripts expecting binary blobs to do the heavy lifting.Like I said. Lot’s of work. You young bucks need to step up if worried. I am done working < Hard > . I do know one thing. Anti has things covered. So I am not worried about what anyone else does. If disaster just strikes anyways for what ever reason. Semper Gumby. Always Flexible.

::… Ah interesting point of view rokytnji … so the main deviation may comes from the blobs and systemd ?

::I’ve always heard good things a/b the Arch repos. Seems like Devuan also might be a good possibility.
