      On a devuan system I am considering changing the repositories to point to antix. Then do an apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade.
      Does anyone have a feel for how risky this would be?

        File structure is different and maybe libs wrote differently
        They may not use /usr/local/bin like we do or files in /etc.

        Having said that. Did you ask on Devuan Forums?

        If me. I’d pull off of Devuan what I wanna save.
        Edit: Then maybe try what you suggest and reboot after a
        sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y
        If it breaks or crash and burns.
        Then Fresh install AntiX.

        Can you do what you asked. Sure. Is it safe? I won’t say it is. Will it work? Beats me.

          What are you trying/expecting to accomplish?

          I think I would compare the lists of packages first. I think there will be many differences that each might cause problems. I think I would look at it from a question of what programs do I want to have available that I have on Devuan, and install those on antiX, instead.

            If it is safe and possible to switch from Debian (and any debian based distro) to devuan or to antix, then there should be no problem from going from one to another. You have to make sure when you do it that what “can” come from antix will replace what came from Devuan, or vise versa. A mix may/will not eventually work. Thankfully devuan pkgs are named differently than debian, and antix pkgs as well.

            When you will comment out the devuan sources.list and adopt the antix pattern of sources (a bit more complicated and you can use an antix live image as a guide and to copy stuff) and do an apt update, the non antix/debian pkgs, will appear as local (locally installed). You should make sure (except for 3rd party stuff you installed and remember you did) that those will be replaced.
            Then inquire on the remaining stuff (if any) whether they should be there or not on a 1 by 1 basis.

            If you are running Refracta’s OpenRC and eudev you should consider first removing them, returning to sysvinit, reboot and make sure it is still ok, then do the transformation to antix. At least on my last attempt trying to bring refracta’s openrc init to antix didn’t work due to incompatible dependencies.

            If you ask the same question at devuan you might get jumped on for why you want to switch and you will get a lot of heat for no benefit. If you ask fsmithred in person he may want to help although don’t expect him to know things about antix. The rest you can keep to yourself 🙂 I think fsmithred brought OpenRC to Devuan single handedly and met resistance.

            Maybe I should try this experiment myself just for kicks, I have refracta’s openrc minimal in beowulf and sid versions and I can go from there to antix-testing or sid. I bet you I can.

            What Rocky says is for sure easier maybe quicker, but the challenge is always sexier.
