::“Icons on the toolbar should be more consistent in size and spacing between them. Where can I control such their attributes?” – as far as I know, that’s done on the app’s desktop file itself… Check if changing tint2’s icon set also solves that problem… Spacing is controled by tint2 in ( Properties > Launcher > Spacing)
I am not sure if is any clue but for those oversized icons once these programs are started their icons in the running part of toolbar are quite correct and size as should be…
– “The stock Internet icon seems dead to me” – if you don’t need it, simply remove that “button”,
I will remove it for the time being because it is currently dead for me (does not do anything) but also that the main icon of Network Manager carried very nicely over and fully functional.
One more observation: The search function (for apps I understand?) seems to return multiple results of the same app…
I am typically not using search but would be nice to make it return one occurrence of app instead of multiple.
These are minor touches, of course…
Thanks again team and best regards…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

Thanks again team and best regards…I’m not really sure if I get your trouble with oversized icons… can you post a screen grab, so I can take a look, please? I ‘m curious about that…
Now I get why your computer didn’t display anything when you clicked the “internet” toolbar button: your system does not have connman-gtk installed (you can install it with sudo apt install connman-gtk , if you so whish)
The application tint2’s button uses to search for apps is “app-select”- that comes with antiX out of the box… I never saw it returning several entries when searching for an app- can you tell me which search returns that result?

Here it is below. This is just a test selection of apps, not necessarily the ones I am using, but just to show this is happening:
In the jpg the 8th icon should be Adobe Acrobat reader but it looks like something unrecognizable.
Following icons are too large: antiX Connectshares, FreeOffice Planmaker, Google Earth and next I think Handbrake, Kodi.
Office size seems OK.
Just please notice Adobe reader running – icon is correct and good size…The application tint2’s button uses to search for apps is “app-select”- that comes with antiX out of the box…
AppSelect does not work on my antiX so I cannot compare. I will try to re-create what I did…
Thanks much again.

::In the image you shared with us, I can clearly see the Adobe Acrobat reader image on the right.
In the eighth image from the left (including the three “gray” looking system images at the far left), on the system I’m currently on (running Firefox 83.0b3 (64-bit) at the moment), the image looks a bit blurry but it does appear to be an Acrobat image, for what it’s worth.--

::n the image you shared with us, I can clearly see the Adobe Acrobat reader image on the right.
Yes. The Adobe on the right is the running Acrobat. This one is good. The icon from which it was started is second on the right from Chrome and appears to have fragments of Acrobat, apparently due to being to large and not fitting entirely.
Icons to the right of Chrome appear to be in general oversized, which may account for impression of being crowded.
I am not looking for perfection and these are not necessarily I would put on the toolbar in reality but it is here just to illustrate that some lack of uniformity in size and spacing is something to look at in general.Another pecularity I noticed is that if the mouse pointer is on empty space of desktop and mouse wheel is turned then the entire set of running apps disappear. Turn wheel more it re-appears and so on, as if turning wheel rotates workspaces…
Thanks and Regards…

::@olsztyn:
I think that the Adobe Reader icon is not too big- the “launcher” part of tint2 toolbar is just using a different icon set from the rest of your OS- did you try changing it’s icon set to “papirus” like I suggested before? If that does not work- if you changed antiX’s default icon set, try all icon sets available, until both “Adobe reader” launcher icon and it’s taskbar icon match…
About the mouse – your guess is right- using the “mouse wheel” on an empty space on the fluxbox desktop, changes workspaces… 🙂

Changing to Papyrus or Numix did not change the launcher icons. Unless you mean I need to re-create launcher after change to Papyrus… Changing icon theme seems to change icons on toolbar but not launcher…

If you don’t see any change on the “launcher icons” you’ll probably on the wrong menu, I may have given you the wrong instructions… Try this:
Right click the “start menu”; in the “proprieties” window, click the “Launcher” tab; Scroll down, if you have to, until you see the “icon theme” option. It has a dropdown box. Click there and choose “Papirus-antix”, or any other theme. As soon as you click “Apply”, the launcher icons should change, particularly the “scanner” icon.
That scanner icon is what I thinks it’s odd, because I do know that’s “papirus” scanner icon…
What icon does Adobe reader show on your menu? The right one or the strange one?
Also- you said app-select wasn’t working for you.. Try running it from the terminal and see if you don’t get any icon related errors- it happened to me once… it could be something with your install…P.

Yes, indeed. Icons do change now. Acrobat icon is good now. Adjusting spacing on that page also fixed spacing.
Beautiful!
Discovering extensive settings capability on that page too… Very nice and powerful config tool.

I am not sure what I did before to claim multiple app selection on Search tool but after more testing I can confirm I must have been clicking with left mouse button at that time, instead of right.
Search for apps works perfectly!
This desktop shapes up to be my primary…
Thanks for your guidance and best Regards…

Thank you! Now you helped me identify why my app-select did not work as well, in addition to all your help on the new desktop.
So while playing (by my mistake actually) on the wrong menu (CC Customize Look and Feel) icon themes I accidentally discovered the cause of the my problem why app-select did not work on my antiX.
Namely I was getting:
$ app-select
Traceback (most recent call last):
File “/usr/local/bin/app-select”, line 292, in <module>
win = mainWindow()
File “/usr/local/bin/app-select”, line 242, in __init__

self.add_item(store, filename, ”)
File “/usr/local/bin/app-select”, line 131, in add_item
icon = icon_info.get_filename()
AttributeError: ‘NoneType’ object has no attribute ‘get_filename’
demo@antix1:~This error was because of Adwaita or ROX icon theme. Changing to papirus-mini-antiX fixed App-select…
Thanks again for your patience…

::My “how to” is meant for the fluxbox desktop (because it’s toolbar isn’t very costumizable), but you can run tint2 in icewm. To make the best of it:
Just to update, I have tested Tin2+IceWM and in general it does work as expected with the following details, which I am writing from such Tinted IceWM:
– Start Menu does not seem to work for me but in my case it is not important as I always use right-click for menu.
– Hardware keys for sound volume and screen brightness continue to work as usual.
– Running app: Right-click on toolbar icon (accidental or not) of running app appears to close that app.Having considered that antiX team has put lots of attention to IceWM, adding enhancements over time, the question would be how much in addition Tint2 can add.
It is clear to me though that in case of Fluxbox Tint2 is a great addition to pursue and polish, to make such Fluxbox+Tint2 desktop receive equal attention to IceWM…
Just my two cents…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

Just my two cents…The fluxbox ‘purists’ may prefer antiX to ship without tint2, instead preferring to make it their own and having looks nothing like Windows 10.
Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

I agree with anti… My idea was to provide a way of easily costumizing a toolbar (and optionaly the menu), to make Fluxbox have some features that it lacks (mainly a real start menu icon and quick launch icons), also adding some extra bonus, like real time previews of windows of running apps- all that can basically be done using the default IceWM desktop, with the now easily instalable skippy-xd, and if you want to, a toolbar icon for Drill’s appimage (this was my setup for many months)…
This “how-to” was meant as an extra option for antiX users- if you install it on a computer that more people use, probably makes sense to make it feel as “familiar” as possible for them- it does not try to “clone” Windows 10, but offer equivalent (or better) features that it’s toolbar provides, and also ends up looking a lot with Windows 10 (using some of it’s better design features). For minimal memory usage, probably nothing beats a simple “min-fluxbox” desktop, without any added “bling”!P.

Understood. And I respect this, of course. However for those who would like to chose additional functionality, this is a great addition, although still needs some work.
Also, although PPC chose to indicate ‘making desktop look and work more like Windows’ in the post title, I am confident that the actual intent was enhanced functionality rather than Windows similarity.
As far as I am concerned for a long time I actually preferred Fluxbox for antiX, although IceWM’s look and feel is much closer to Windows, so in my case any similarity to Windows does not play any role. However all the work antiX team put into IceWM enhancements made Fluxbox less competitive in terms of functionality so I welcome efforts to enhance Fluxbox functionality such as Tint2, to continue to provide a viable choice of desktops for antiX, as originally intended…
