Hello I am running Antix 64 bit grup yorum with icewm desktop

I want to reduce the resolution for my LCD because my PC is rather low-powered. Right now it is running at 1080p 1920 x 1080. I want to reduce it to something smaller, but the screen resolution changer from the antix control centre only lists the one resolution that I am currently using.

It could be a function of your system and what display driver is being used. The posts at the top of the forum on how to get help give a better explanation, but basically we need to know the details of what you are running to help. What brand and model computer is it? Post a link to the specs, please.

For starters, in a terminal, type inxi -Fxz and copy/paste/post the results here.

Basically by setting custom resolution using xrandr and cvt commands.

You can try adapting what is said here, https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/227876/how-to-set-custom-resolution-using-xrandr-when-the-resolution-is-not-available-i , particularly what is said in the reply that starts with “This is what I had to do on an #IntelMaker #Joule in order to make it work”

Following the instructions in the answer that was provided on the StackExchange post produces the following result. Note that I changed the parts that said “HDMI1” to “default” because that is what xrandr said.

xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
X Error of failed request: BadName (named color or font does not exist)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 16 (RRCreateMode)
Serial number of failed request: 19
Current serial number in output stream: 19
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
                xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed

It appears that this is getting very complicated. Thanks for the attempt to help, but it’s no problem if you can’t. 🙂

                  loaded: fbdev

The reason for your issue is the proper graphics device driver isn’t loaded at startup, but fbdev instead.
You could try some boot options, dirty workarounds for manufacturers bugs, different kernels, possibly you need to install special (proprietary?) firmware, or if anything else fails installing proprietary drivers for your graphics device, to make the proper drivers work. Then you’ll be able to change the resolution from within antiX, they will be displayed automatically in arandr. Sorry, no experience at all with intel graphics devices, so others might guide you through the needed steps in detail.

I’m pretty sure the inxi output should read something like
                  driver: intel
                  or
                  driver: i915
                  instead.

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

To check if intel driver loaded. If a full iso icewm install. Might also try removing nomodeset from grub line on b00t screen.

                          There was success! =D

Running the modprobe didn’t do anything and inxi showed the same result after rebooting. But following the instructions provided on ttps://mxlinux.org/wiki/hardware/intel-video-driver/ fixed the problem.

                          Thanks for the help!!! 🙂

I see you found something that works. That’s good. I hadn’t ever seen that before.

This is the method I use for i915’s like my skylake

                            inxi -Gxx

Get the 2nd half of the Chip Id on the i915

Look at this post. You need to put the 2nd half of that chip id as the i915.force_probe= parameter. Mine is a 191b

                            acpi_osi=!Windows i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 i915.alpha_support=1 i915.force_probe=191b

Read this thread and try the boot parameters
