How can I lower the resolution of videos in YTFZF to use less cpu on my old 32bit laptop?
In mpv I can do it, with this configuration:ytdl-format=bestvideo[height<=?350][fps<=?30][vcodec!=?vp9]+bestaudio/bestbut when opened from ytfzf the videos always open at the maximum resolution.

::Please play with zoom ratio in
/home/yourusername/.config/mpv i messed with both input.conf and mpv.conf.Setting following in the mpv.conf did what I wanted.
fullscreen=yes
ytdl-format=bv*[vcodec^=avc1][height<=?1080][fps<=?60]+ba/bestYou will probably need to try a few different settings.
Sorry i am unable to be more informative. 3rd bout of covid and
not feeling at my best.There is a lot of excellent information on video paraameter in a thread
with subluminal. Really helped me to get the best out of my hardware.April 15, 2022 at 8:31 am #81339Member

::Moddlt! Thank you. I hope you are soon recovered. A difficult time for all of us that I hope will pass soon.
Your setup is very similar to mine.
With that configuration I can open videos with mpv directly and it works, the resolution is as I indicate, but when I open videos with ytfzf it doesn’t work, they open at high resolution.However, if this is not possible, it is not essential, SMTube fulfills the function perfectly well.

::Pls try the below way, my setup may be slightly different as I am on latest version.
That comes with docs plugins and some sample config files. You can only (I think) change video resolution
by setting height.Sorry, my head is burning. need to play and find the correct setting. again…
Please create ~/.config/ytfzf/conf.sh in a text editor and paste the following: shell script so must be executable.
YTFZF_HIST=1 # history is on by default it can be set to -> 0 history off, 1: history on
YTFZF_LOOP=0 # if set to 1 it is on but normally it is off by default. Can be turned on using option -l
YTFZF_PREF=”bestvideo[height<=?1080]+bestaudio/best” # set the video format
YTFZF_ENABLE_FZF_DEFAULT_OPTS=1 # fzf colors are going to be the one from your fzf configuration
FZF_PLAYER=”mpv” # sets the video player used by ytfzf (mpv by default), e.g. FZF_PLAYER=”devour mpv”; you can also specify the YTFZF_PLAYER_FORMAT, e.g. YTFZF_PLAYER_FORMAT=”devour mpv –ytdl-format=”April 15, 2022 at 11:40 am #81347MemberPPC
::@Aleph_Sev – delete any mpv.conf file you have (ex; rename that file) and follow the steps from this post: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/i-video-sono-diventati-lenti-e-si-bloccano/page/2/#post-79522
It changes mpv’s settings in a global way, even when mpv is being run by ytfzf – please note that the default video quality of this script is 480p (don’t forget to read how to change it to a lower resolution)

edit: @moddit – probably “bestvideo[height<=?1080” is too high for a 32 bits computer (like the OP has) – in my experience, the most it runs well in normal conditions is 480p…

::Hi,
I have used the ytdlautoformat.lua method that @PPC has suggested. This works very good for me. I wanted to add another thing from my experience. For some of my very old hardware, even 240p gives 100% cpu usage on some youtube videos. This ytdlautoformat.lua file suggests that 240 is the lower limit. I have found that one can use 144p with this ytdlautoformat.lua file on these very old hardware, and the cpu is less than 100% on these youtube videos.
That is,local changedQuality = 144
This is only for the very oldest hardware that I have. Otherwise I use 360p and up.

::Thanks @PPC it works with the lua script! I have set the resolution to 360. The cpu is like this at 45%.
Thanks also @Moddlt ! Have a rest please 😉
EDIT:
However, the same video, at the same resolution (360) but from SMTube uses a bit less the cpu, only a 40%…- This reply was modified 1 year ago by Aleph_Sev.

::Hi PPC Thanks for link and reminder.
edit: @moddit – probably “bestvideo[height<=?1080” is too high for a 32 bits computer (like the OP has)
– in my experience, the most it runs well in normal conditions is 480p…That was an example from my config, I expected Aleph_Sev would set the height to what he needs. :-).
