Since antiX 21 comes, out of the box, with Seamonkey, and for good and for worse, Gmail is probably the world’s most used e-mail service, here’s a quick how to configure Seamonkey E-mail client to work with it:

1- First check if Gmail is correctly configured (see here how to do it): http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77695
      2- Configure Seamonkey:

-In the “New Account Setup” window click “Next” to add an e-mail account
-In the “Identity” window enter your name and your full email address, including the @gmail.com part, click “Next”
-In “Incoming Server Information” choose “IMAP” and port 993
      Incoming Server is imap.gmail.com
The User Name is your full email address, including the @gmail.com part, click “Next”
      -In “Outgoing Server Information”
      Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com
Outgoing User Name is your full email address, including the @gmail.com part, click “Next”
-After this, you get to the mail Seamonkey e-mail client main window > right click your gmail acount on the top left side of the screen and choose “Settings”

In Server Settings make sure that these are the existing settings:
      imap.gmail.com, port 993, user name is your full e-mail address;
      Security Settings – “SSL/TLS”
      Authentication method: “OAuth2”
You may want “Check for new messages at startup” checked

-Then click, on the left side of the screen “Outgoing Server (SMTP)” > Select, on the middle part of the window, your gmail account and click “Edit”, make sure these are the settings:
      Server Name: smtp.gmail.com
      Port: 465
      Connection Security: SSL/TLS”
      Authentication method: “OAuth2”
User name: your full e-mail address

At the first time you try to access your Gmail account, an window, asking for your google credentials opens. Enter the username / password and check the box to keep you logged, if you want to and give authorisation to allow the app to access your data. The window refers Thunderbird, because Seamonkey Email Client is a fork of Thunderbird.

Note: having your e-mail account configured to work with an e-mail client is great for users of very old computers, that have problems navigating modern websites ( including webmail). Opening Seamonkey e-mail client and almost instantly getting your e-mail, or be able to write and send an e-mail helps making a more productive use of your old device.

PS: I tried, but it seems there’s no way to make Google Calendar work with Seamonkey’s calendar- the needed extension fails to install in Seamonkey- so you only get your Gmail, not GCalendar working with antiX. If you want/need GCalendar in antiX you may use it’s web version or try your luck with Thunderbird e-mail client (or other third party apps).

      P.

        Good one PPC!

I used to do that every time I installed or updated SeaMonkey.

I forget exactly how I did it but I definitely kept notes from the Gmail and Yahoo Mail sites.

        Excellent information!
