It is possible he just can’t see the standard one because there isn’t much color difference between the taskbar itself and the volumeicon speaker.

I think he should just try changing the color via preferences first, and see if that fixes it, and if not, then try installing pnmixer

        hello carugnom
antiX is bred to be lean. The filtering, due lack, of notifications using resources is a detail not overlooked. Credit to the developers of lean.
Add to load whatever you choose.

        jwm keys file

        <Key key=”XF86AudioRaiseVolume”>exec:amixer set Master 9%+ |yad-volume</Key>

        icewm keys file
        key “XF86AudioLowerVolume” /bin/sh -c “amixer sset Master 5%- |yad-volume”
        key “XF86AudioRaiseVolume” /bin/sh -c “amixer sset Master 5%+ |yad-volume”

        fluxbox keys file

Thank you everyone for all the help !
I’ll be trying your proposals and decide which one works better for me
I think it would be better that this functionalty would be part of the volumeicon itself, at least that optionally it could show an osd notification to avoid some dbus communication.
The feedback of the volume level in the taskbar icon doesn’t always work because sometimes one is playing fullscreen videos, and that icon is not visible in that case.
          So, thank you all !

hello carugnom , yad-volume is in mouse location.
            Hello PPC ,
The yad-volume script first amixer command is -M get. My opinion is that it gives a more comfortable representation in the slider without the “-M”

Yes, in the initial posts the op said he could see the current icon, but wants a pop up volume level readout when it gets changed.

The idea of a script that runs before and/or after it gets changed makes sense to me.
