::olsztyn: If you are willing, please download 17.4.1 (here at https://sourceforge.net/projects/antix-linux/files/Final/antiX-17.4/antiX-17.4.1_386-base.iso/download ) for testing.
I made a cursory search for 17.2 but it’s no longer on sourceforge, so I downloaded 17.4.1 to test. If we can both test the same exact ones, it will be the best way to compare.
I have to admit, I’ve been using static persistence exclusively since I discovered that it runs very fast on my old (10-year old, limited-RAM) 32-bit netbooks. But I understand you want to throw away any potential changes to the rootfs unless you choose to save. (That’s a cool feature.) So I will mirror your tests – keep good records, and I will see if there is anything I can help with; I’m just a user (not a developer), but I’ve used frugals & live USB a lot on antiX. So I’m happy to help if I can. I’m using a couple 16 gb flash drives, so my homefs and rootfs will be limited by that. But the issues involved should be the same.confirmed antiX frugaler, since 2019

::Hi Christophe,
Please let me know if you want me to do all this on 17.4 to help identify your issue with vanishing homefs or something else because as I remember this vanishing happened on antiX 19 B3…
But if it is related to my post and my question I reported then I think I have this by now sorted out as a matter of understanding how these Home and persistence things work in antiX.
So, related to my perspective I have a workaround provided by you (Thanks again) regardless if there is clarity in antiX on how these persistence work and translate into what I see in File manager and how it can be managed in Control center. At this point the symlink to Live-usb-storage you suggested dexterously resolves my objective and I would leave it to timeline and priorities of antiX developers to clarify how these things really work. No rush, as there are probably more urgent priorities and I consider antiX’s ultimate success more important.Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

::No. I just wanted to help you. If you are satisfied, then no need to continue. 😉
I’m glad you liked the symlinks. I use that on all my frugals & usbs. You can even go without home persistence once you set it up & remaster that way (saving /home into the remaster)…confirmed antiX frugaler, since 2019

Yes, indeed… Thanks to having all these tools so nicely packaged in antiX it is just a few clicks away.
The way antiX is put together makes it a perfect system for integrity of the system and security:
I am running in Root Persistence but saved manually. After incremental changes are tested and working to satisfaction I save persistence. Otherwise I just reboot, which automatically discards changes. If all works I remaster and practically never save root persistence until next changes are needed. This way I am sure of system integrity that every time I boot it is perfectly identical and no unexpected changes have been inadvertently introduced.
You do not have such system integrity in typical installations (whether Linux or Windows) because inadvertent changes are saved or some rogue code may have crept in during sessions.
Therefore for the same reason of system integrity as described above I think Frugal is better than installed as it carries the same integrity advantages while also sitting on local SSD it is as fast as installed.- This reply was modified 3 years, 8 months ago by olsztyn.
