So I already extracted the file but I am not sure how to run it. Inside is the following:
      – documents (folder)
      – install.sh
      – packages (folder)
      – resources (folder)

This driver is obtained from the official Canon website.

RPM does not work on Debian based systems (only Fedora Suse and others). For debian you need the .deb.tar.gz version.

Download the deb.tar.gz Extract it and execute the .deb file in it.

Thank you, so how do I execute this .deb file? When I right click it says “Archive-Exctract” or “Install with gdebi”. And when I click on this last option I get the error message:
Program /home/user/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/SendTo/.application_vnd.debian.binary-package/Install with gdebi not found – deleted?

Actually, there is a DEB package alien that may help you to accomplish the task.

The sequence of commands could be

sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade && sudo apt install alien
            tar xvzf <name>.rmp.tar.gz
            alien --to-deb <name>.rpm
            dpkg --install <name>.deb

The 1st line is to install the package ‘alien’ (if not already install).

WARNING: May fail due to missing dependencies, may break your system, i.e. use at your own risk!

Regarding the dependencies, try to find them in e.g. Fedora package list, find+install the corresponding closest DEB equivalents and attempt to re-install.

First check (e.g. ‘apt search <keyword/name>’) whether the package is not in the Debian/antiX repositories already.

If not and you have downloaded the DEB equivalent-package, then you can use the command-line again, the
              dpkg --install <name>.deb
              command.

Is your system up to date?
                sudo apt update

                sudo apt dist-upgrade

On an updated system, ” install with gdebi ” should work.

                Otherwise go to gdebi from
                menu > applications > system > gdebi
and in gdebi to the deb.file

Apparently I had no “gdebi” (even when updated). Perhaps that is because I installed Antix 19 base.

But using “install with gdebi” I get the following error now (I updated my laptop as you said):

Thank you Xecure. I got it installed. However, when I want to print a document now (Libre office .odt) I only see the option “generic printer” and nothing happens when I click on it.

I also don’t see a menu item on my laptop named “Canon” or “printer”.

Setting up the printer with system-config-printer if it is connected to USB should work.

If you cannot get it to work, wait for an expert, like caprea, that has more experience with printers.

Haha, I have time to wait. Had to write an important letter re my taxes. Wrote it old school with a pen.

No printer is found using “system-config-printer”. When I click on troubleshoot I am asked to give a username and password as authentication. I tried the serial number and ADMIN as username as recommended here: https://ugp01.c-ij.com/ij/webmanual/Others1/EN/PW/pw_default.html

I also tried username ADMIN and password canon.

Also I get the following message when using “system-config-printer”.

(system-config-printer.py:4896): dbind-WARNING **: 17:38:30.216: Error retrieving accessibility bus address: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.a11y.Bus was not provided by any .service files

This is not the solution, but may point you in the right way:
                                – you didn’t say what was your printer’s model, so I went to the official cannon web page, https://www.canon-europe.com and selected a random model, looked for linux drivers for it and landed on a page that had several version of the driver: first the source file, then the rpm package and finally the debian package. This last package is the one that may be compatible with antiX, since antiX is Debian based.
Please try to download the debian package for your printer’s model, if it’s available, and try to install it (in a live version of antiX, or running in virtualbox, just to check if it does not mess up your system).

                                P.

Thanks, I updated the title. Indeed I am trying to get the debian package to work (Canon TS3150).
