      Hello,

I need to install emacs and R, which are available as deb packages. what is the recommended install to get fastest apps?
should I compile from source or run the Gdebi or sth else?

        If running antiX 19.3 full.
        – Install from the synaptics package manager (Control Centre > System > Manage Packages). Update packages, search for emacs or R-base, select and install

If running antiX 19.3 base (and you don’t want to install synaptic package manager).
        – Install with the terminal based package manager “cli-aptiX” (Control Centre > System > Manage Packages). Launch it, Update the packagelist, Select “Search for packages”, write “emacs” and see which is the one you want to install (I think option “22) emacs – GNU Emacs editor (metapackage)”). Install. For the R statistical language, then search for “r-base” and install it.

For ALL versions, using the terminal
        Install emacs:
sudo apt update && sudo apt install emacs
        Install R:
sudo apt update && sudo apt install r-base

If non of the above you like, then you can download the .deb packages from their website, and install them using Gdebi or using the terminal
        sudo apt install /path/to/deb-file.deb
where /path/to/deb-file.deb is the complete path to the debfile you want to install (tip: you don’t need to write the path manually. You can instead drag and drop the file from the file manager to the terminal and the file’s path will be pasted on the terminal).

              hello stephenbbb and Xecure
augmented documentation in antiX wiki is new! thank you to all writers of wiki.

Method to produce quicker apps still the question.
I guess build local in place is better (?) reserving on that opinion to the experts theory, though i would do that for packages that will not frequent, or ever, upgrade through a package installer (?)
Is make install optimum? To apt the nosysystmd antiX is easy best practice for me. and Quick.

package manager is too slick not to use, thanks to the antiX packagers. use apt-get [apt, aptitude, Synaptic-pm [dpkg]] or gdebi whenever possible (?) and keep upgrading.
