::Which WM are you using?
Sorry- I neglected to specify that because my previous post were about IceWM- I’m using plain IcewM (without desktop icons but with Ft10 installed- but that does not mess with IceWM’s config- only disables the default taskbar and enables a tint2 toolbar that allows access to a customized jgmenu – I still have access to the regular IceWM menu (by right clicking the desktop or the Start menu toolbar button)….
But I still haven’t fired up my Laptop that has antiX 22, 32bits, to perform a test installation of an offi-line .deb package).P.

::I did no try to test installing a package in my antiX 21 32bits laptop during the weekend, but I just now tested installing and uninstalling, using “sudo apt”, the package foliate_2.6.3-0.1_mx21+1_all.deb in my antiX 21 64boits netbook, and it installed fine, and the apps’s entry came up instantly in the correct menu category. Please note that I do no recall ever having the problem of a manually installed .deb package failing to appear in my menu, not in antiX 16, 19 or 22 (and I used, through the years, 32 and 63 bits desktops, IceWM, Fluxbox and JWM- right now I mostly use IceWM).
Edit: if that matters, I’ve always used antiX Full

::Thats interesting. Maybe you have modified your system in some way? I guess the true test would be to try this on a pristine antix install, or live usb. Maybe on a rainy day…
Looking into it some more I think the apt hook is triggered by changes in the /usr/share/applications/ folder so perhaps if the desktop file is installed somewhere else it might not get triggered. For instance, I think GOG games desktop files are put in ~/Desktop.
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99-update-menus
calls this script
/usr/local/lib/desktop-menu/desktop-menu-apt-update

::Sorry, I just now noticed how many typos I made recently- I had vision problems this last 3 days,
” 32 and 63 bits desktops” LOLMore on this subject:
My antiX 22, full, 64 bits desktop (not one bit missing from it 🙂 ) is almost pristine – I installed it, ft10 (that does not change much other than hidding Window Manager’s toolbar and launching a tint2 toolbar, that does not impact the system in any way that I can see afecting the menu update hookup- and to emable it, I always use the “Ft10 enable” menu entry that the package generates- but, to be fair, in this device I did install ft10 straight from the repo, not from my off-line .deb package, so nevermind). I also installed seamonkey, thunderbird, Min Browser and little more – nothing that should impact the system.When I was testing Ft10, I tried it lots of times on pristine “antiX 21 64bis full” images, in Virtual box, manually installing the ft10’s deb file- and the respective menu entries always showed up flawlessly on it, under Fluxbox and IceWM (or even JWM)…
Both blur13 and Moddit seem to be affected by this problem- manually installed packages not showing up in antiX menu… I wonder if any other users out there are having similar experiences? If it’s your case, please report it here!

::TIP: Maybe off topic here, but inspired by Xecure’s idea to have a menu more easily understood by folks that are just getting to know antiX and it’s apps, maybe have Menu entries diaplaying the app’s description (showing the .desktop’s “Comment” field on the menu):
sudo desktop-menu --write-out-global --names --comments --order nc --pattern="[]"Please note that, when the menu is updated for some reason (example: when you click “Refresh menu”, update the system or install a new package), the default menu, displaying only the app’s name will be back, just like the Terminator…
