I tried running this command in terminal to install vlc

      apt-get –no-install-recommends build-dep vlc
      Reading package lists… Done
E: You must put some ‘deb-src’ URIs in your sources.list

How do i resolve this as i am running antix 22 on a 64 bit system

There have been some issues with ‘vlc’ installation recently (not sure if resolved yet in any or all the repositories), see e.g.
        https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/cannot-install-vlc-on-antix-22/

        I’ve never used ‘apt-get’ combined with ‘build-dep’.
The explanation in https://askubuntu.com/questions/324845/whats-the-difference-between-apt-get-install-and-apt-get-build-dep suggests the error is due to no local/outer repository being provided.
I am not sure if I do fully understand the meaning of ‘build-dep’.
Why exactly did you use it? Could you please explain in a bit more detail what do you expect to happen (not the final result but the process as well)?

My current understanding (and I admit that I may be utterly wrong) is that it should install dependencies of ‘vlc’ so that you can build the package yourself on your PC from source (clone of a repository?).

Also, posting ‘inxi -Fzr’ with any repository problems might help resolve the issue faster.

Also just guessing what you want to do.
If you want to install the build depencies of vlc to build it eg. from source,
you need to enable the deb-src line in your /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list and update.
You can do this also with the repo-manager
control-centre > programs > repo-manager > go to tab “Individual sources” > then checkmark under antix.list the one deb-src line for bullseye.
Not the one for testing unless you use debian testing repos anyway.
If you just want to install vlc, better wait till the vlc problems are solved, which should happen shortly.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

@eyekay234 You have to wait until the fixed debs hit the antiX reps

@eyekay234: Building would be more tricky because, I believe, antiX has some customisations that justify the “suffix” ‘nosystemd’ in the name of some of the packages.
Not sure if the build scripts are available and work seamlessly across (at least close) versions, i.e. without the need to tinker with them for each release.
                    Just guessing there.
