How to return my front left panel to its default settings

Hi i always use the fault settings for my left panel and screen and that’s all i like. How can i revert back to them without too much fuss do you have one line of code? I was careless and tried to resolve the situation by clicking different options and it just kept on making things worse. Also can i make the default settings permanent so it doesn’t happen again?
Just want to say i really hated the old legacy options and messing around it was like going back to the digital cave days of the old green macs!
Changing the subject i have two other unrelated questions–
How can i override the extra layer of security and just click into a folder without writing any code?
How can i find information on getting my internet browsers to work through the UFW firewall as i gave up with it early and have no patience — i’m always in a hurry?
I’m using the latest Antix OS.

Hi, md4!
I did not understand your first two main questions…
1- Is your first question about your “left panel” mean you are talking about IceWm’s toolbar – the bar on the bottom of the scree, that has the Menu and the eject icons on the left and the clock on the right?
2- The “How can i override the extra layer of security and just click into a folder without writing any code?” – do you mean you can’t just open a file manager (Rox or SpaceFM) and navigate through your folder’s contents?
3- About the firewall, that question I believe I can help you with- the how to activate the firewall under antiX 19.X is over at:

Hi PPC thanks for your post.
1. Just wanted to get back to IceWm’s toolbar as it was from the very beginning, — to the initial default screen from first start up of the OS.
2. Can you override both file managers so that the folders in the home folder can just open?
3. I know how to enable the firewall but i have never figured out how to get the internet browsers to work through it. Plus how would i know the best/highest security settings?
Should have got back sooner.

No problem…

1- try this:
cp /etc/skel/.icewm/toolbar ~/.icewm/toolbar

And then restart Icewm

The /etc/skel folder stores the default setting of many things in antiX… handy if you mess something up…

2- select the desktop called spacefm-icewm – That means antix uses spacefm to manage icewm’s desktop icons. the default rox-icewm simply creates a link to the file you put in your desktop, that’s probably why you can’t open folder saved on your desktop. Probably spacefm will allow you to do just that (sorry, I did not test that).

3- If the firewall is enabled the internet browsers should work through it normally. To be honest I never messed with the security settings, I simply use the default ones…

Thanks for your reply but have tried your commands to no avail. I copied and pasted them and icewm still is no-where to be found.
Have other problems with my Desktop choices, some of them have doubled up and its a bit of a mess. I really don’t know how this has happened.
Some good news though i’ve managed to get my firewall working and can use my browser through it. Left the firewall alone and everything is OK.

Ah, you are talking about icewm is missing from the options. Try this

apt-get install --reinstall desktop-session-antix

Icewm should reappear.

Hi will give it a try thanks. One question though should some of the desktop choices be doubled up so that you see two of them? of the same name? There’s about three or four of those!
Changing the subject one last thing:- in the upgrades within terminal i’m getting crypto errors and comments like can’t find original disk. Later on I’m having to set the RESUME option to keep the upgrades moving on to fully complete. Is that a fairly standard thing on an old laptop in any case it all works. What do think? p.s have tried to turn the crypto settings back on – which was the last change i’ve tried on it.
I’m still a novice with somethings!

Thanks Caprea your code worked. I ran your terminal code then used the side toolbar clicking desktop and other desktop then after — Icewm.
There was a further complication with my guest account after doing the above. I had to select themes at the bottom of the side bar then find clearlooks in the long list with medium size text to get back to the original default operating system first start up setting.
Problem solved.

Actually the default theme used on latest antiX-19 is BlueDay-Medium not clearlooks.

All default settings can be found in /etc/skel
