I see you installed the full x64 version.

Please list what other programs you installed?

Please also list any flatpacks or programs from other distros or sites?

Did you change the repository list at all?

I noticed a lot of “systemd” lines in the log and I have the same version installed, but when I look in mine, and I don’t have any of “systemd” lines. I’m not really an expert on these things, but I think that might also be why you are having performance and browser problems.

It looks like you installed a Super Nintendo emulator program called ZSNES, which looks to have come from Debian, and it required other packages that required systemd, which would likely cause many problems for antiX.

I don’t know if removing ZSNES and then removing the packages it required will fix everything or not. It might be worth a try.

I did a fresh install of antiX 19.3 Full x_64 and then went to a terminal and installed zsnes

              `sudo apt update
              sudo apt dist-upgrade
              sudo apt install zsnes’

and it installed zsnes correctly with no systemd. I went and ran it and it ran ok. I am typing from that system now with no browser or communication problems.

I can see from your dpkg.log that when you installed zsnes before it installed systemd, but when I did it a few minutes ago it did not.

I do believe you need to remove systemd and anything that required it to get your system running ok. I don’t know if there will still be problems later or not.

Maybe one of the other ops has seen this issue before?

Before I spend my time trying to reproduce installing systemd and then trying to restore it to sysvinit as the main init, I will ask you a few questions.

Do you want systemd? It seems you are using systemctl and have set things with systemd services, so maybe you are following instructions using systemd and need it for something (maybe some program you installed).
If you do, then I don’t know how to help. antiX has deviated from Debian and, in its design, systemd is out of the equation, so many things may not work as expected if systemd is installed. If these messages don’t really make your system run bad and you can boot normally, then ignore them.

systemd can only be installed if at some point you disabled the antiX.list in /etc/apt/sources.list/ or if you removed the option 00systemd from /etc/apt/preferences.d/.

You have had lots of trouble with the specific mirror.ibcp.fr french repo mirror, as seen in this topic, but you never answered back to tell s if you restored the original antix.list source and used repo manager instead to change the repo mirror.

You are also using an VPN, which we don’t know how you installed and if it needs systemd to work. If you need it, then we cannot remove systemd.

If you want to try removing systemd and you are sure you don’t want it, let me know and I will try to figure out in a VM how to recover sysvinit.
Based on this link, as you already have sysvinit installed (because it came in antiX), it should be enough to restore it by copying /usr/share/sysvinit/inittab to the folder /etc/inittab, and reboot, but I think it is better to first test this in a VM before possibly blocking your system.

There are so many things we don’t know about the changes in your system, and many times you never come back to the forum to give us feedback of if any of the suggested things helped, we don’t know what is going on anymore. I can see there are tons of i386 packages installed, mixing with amd64 packages. We don’t know what services were added to boot and don’t know what programs were added to startup (and how). Maybe restoring sysvinit may not solve all the problems.

I had this happen to me once, where I ended up with systemd installed and programs failing, and my solution was to save my data, and then reinstall from scratch, and install all the things I wanted carefully, making sure to check each batch of packages to make sure that no systemd packages were installed with them. The end result was good, and all traces of corruption and problems were gone.

I’m not an expert on this, but that is what I did and why, and how I decided the best choice for me.

If you actually need or want systemd, then I think the best solution is to run Debian instead.

What does sudo apt install elogind show?

Something you installed on 2020-10-05 removed elogind and sysvinit for systemd.
