It just came out. Short of compiling it from source
is there a way to getting it done with apt(8)? TIA--

::Not sure if it would help in the meantime, but it looks like Bullseye has 27.1 in its repos.

::Currently, synaptic offers only emacs-26.1!
27.1 would get me closer.
How do I get that to happen Bullseye or the buster-backports?
TIA--

::https://backports.debian.org/Instructions/
Note that you can install EITHER emacs-nox (command line) or emacs-gtk for Emacs 27.1.
In the past I’ve seen both versions available, but it appears that in this backported implementation you choose one or the other.

::The backports repos is enabled by default on antiX19, no need to change the repos.
I already wrote it above , you can install with the command
sudo apt install emacs/buster-backportsrespectively
sudo apt install emacs-nox/buster-backportsor for emacs-gtk
sudo apt install emacs-gtk/buster-backportsMarch 31, 2021 at 7:52 pm #56688Moderator

::I’m logged into the Bullseye build now and as BobC said, emacs 27.1 IS available in Bullseye; otherwise you can get it in the Buster Backports (I did NOT have the repo enabled, hence that’s why I pointed to the backport instructions). Either way, new Emacs 27.1 .deb packages ARE available for either Buster (through the Backports) or Bullseye (in the regular Bullseye repo).
