I’ve read in
https://www.antixforum.com/antix-22-released/
“that those using previous versions of antiX-21 do not need to download this new version. Simply upgrade via apt or synaptic.”
I tried synaptic, but there was NO info concerning the upgrade.
How can I upgrade using apt ???- This topic was modified 6 months, 2 weeks ago by ninos.

::Hello Ninos,
Please,
— choose from antiX Main Menu the entry “Terminal”
— resize the window so you can see long lines without line breaks or maximise it to full screen.
— enter the following commands:sudo apt update sudo apt dist-upgradeWatch carefully for any error messages.

ninos@antix1:As you can see the
sudo apt dist-upgrade
DID NOT upgrade my system from 21 to 22…What should I do ?????????????
I also read at
https://www.addictivetips.com/ubuntu-linux-tips/upgrade-debian-linux-new-release/
that:
Upgrading to a new release of Debian requires two separate commands:apt-get upgrade -y apt-get dist-upgradeDo we need both commands in order to upgrade to a new realease in antiX too ????

::Hello @ninos,
Have you do :
sudo apt updateIf not, let do it, and after repeat
sudo apt dist-upgrade
See above.At home, it failed, because not enough free space on target device.
Good luck !

::Hello, ninos.
In addition to the above help from the others:
hello
upgraded all packages via apt-get to 22, but lsb-release is still 21,
Also grub shows 21 to login?
what is wrong?Nothing is wrong.
antiX policy is not to make any changes to files that show what the original release was.
You are. of course, free to edit the appropriate files.
Enjoy.See this thread for more information: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/antix-22-released/

in my system the
apt dist-upgrade
doesn’t seem to upgrade
it works but says nothing to dothis is the distro information I got from the terminal:

::Hi, careful examination of the forum reveals:
1) antiX does not modify ‘lsb-release’ (and there is a reason for that), see also the post quoted by @christophe, https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/antix-22-released/page/2/#post-91069
2) antiX 22 is essentially an updated version of antiX 21, both are based on Debian bullseye; the difference is replacing ‘[lib]elogind’ (and probably some other related packages).
Think of it as point-release Debian 11.2: doing regular updates from earlier fresh install of Debian 11 brings your system to the state of 11.2 without the need for an upgrade.
Thus ‘apt dist-upgrade’ reporting nothing to do may simply indicate that you are already there.Let me return to item no. 1) by discussing an “under the hood” change in antiX 22 (when compared to antiX 21):
The aforementioned ‘[lib]elogind’ replacement is not forced as discussed in the post https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/antix-22-released/page/2/#post-91081
This means that your antiX 21 installation may continue to use ‘[lib]elogind’ and even though kept up to date using updates, it slightly differs from fresh antiX 22 installation that would not contain it (unless pulled in as dependencies of some other packages such as LXDE).
This kind of justifies the item no. 1); updates/upgrades of earlier releases may give different systems due to “under the hood” changes.If you wish to get antiX 22, as it is/was intended (including the ‘[lib]elogind’ removal), you may try to get there yourself (see the link in https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/antix-22-released/page/2/#post-91081) or perform a re-install.
I hope that makes it more clear.

::Also, when you dist-upgrade, the identification remains antiX-21 unless you explicitly change the package with the identifier.
more /etc/antix-version antiX-21-runit_x64-full Grup Yorum 30 October 2021Fear not, nothing is wrong and you DO NOT have to explicitly install antiX 22;
you may, if you wish, but the software remains the same.When antiX 23 is released, that’s a more significant change because the
software upstream from Debian goes from Version 11 to Version 12,
the “Bookworm” release.--

::See sybok’s note; it explains the minor differences between 21 and 22 and the links provided go into more detail.
The simple answer though is to perform the sudo apt-get update and the sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, and until
antiX 22 support expires, you will continue to receive software updates.--
