using antix since a year and are very satisfied with, so saying big Thank You for that fine work!
I damaged unrecoverable my old installation (by experimenting too harmfull, obviously) and installed the antix 19.1 beta
distro now. Also followed the guide convert antix into a xfce4-distro by manyroads.Everything went fine, but then updated the kernel to version 5.11.1, rebooted and now X does’nt start anymore.
can someone tell me please, how to let the new kernel know, that the NVidia driver is always installed?July 11, 2019 at 4:44 am #24346Member

::Hi, bitbender
Everything went fine, but then updated the kernel to version 5.11.1, rebooted and now X does’nt start anymore.
For now, choose an older kernel from grub to load your system and wait for someone more knowledgeble to help out, if fixing this is possible.
I experienced the same with an old laptop. I opted to go back to a previous kernel (4.19). It contains all recent security patches, so you will lose nothing. If someone can help you out with this, then you won’t need to go back to an “old” kernel.When you had 17.4, were you also using the 5.xx kernel?

::Thanks for your info, Xecure.
When you had 17.4, were you also using the 5.xx kernel?
No, I ran the 4.8{1,2 ?} kernel, sorry did not remember the right version.
My problem is that I dont know how to install/create a new nvidia kernel moduke for the new kernel.
There is a command like “add module kernel version” but I can’t recall the name. That worked on the old (now gone)
system.
Or: Do you believe or even know that this a kernel 5.11.1 issue?
However, I will downgrade to 4.19, as you mentioned and will report later.Thanks for replying.

Ok. I think you mean rebuilding DKMS modules.
Automatic way:
sudo dkms autoinstall
If that doesn’t work, you will have to manually rebuild. I haven’t done this myself before, and there are too many “solutions”. See here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/53364/command-to-rebuild-all-dkms-modules-for-all-installed-kernels/174017EDIT: I found an antiX-proven way to rebuild dkms modules in the forum. I tracked down the source to a dolphin_oracle video
Enter your antiX system using an previous working kernel, go into root terminal and execute:
for i in $(dpkg-query -l |grep "\-dkms" |awk '{print $2'}); do dpkg-reconfigure $i |tee -a /var/log/rebuild-dkms.log; done
Other forum posts have confirmed this to work.Hopefully this will help you.
Or: Do you believe or even know that this a kernel 5.11.1 issue?
No, as some others report it working. This for me is old hardware problem. That is why anticapitalista gives kernel 4.9 as default for next antiX version. Some old machines don’t like the new kernels.

::@Xecure:
Thank You very mutch for your efforts, sir!Nothing went ok. tried
sudo dkms autoinstall
the one-liner from the Ubuntu-site and also the python script provided there – nothing worked well.I’am not a developer at all, but looking through the logs from what dkms complained, it seemed to me that there
is some script missing in the deepness of directories to make(1) the module for the kernel 5.1.11 .So, I were so mutch frustrated, that I installed kernel 4.19.0-5 and everything goes well.
I will try your provided antix-solution on another experimental-installation of antix later and will report here.

::You already told us what is wrong. You need to reinstall your NVIDIA driver each and every time you update the kernel.
Log in as root (at the command line), Enter ‘smxi’ and follow the instructions for ‘Graphics’.
