      Hi roland,
you note very slow printing, in my case I was able to get decent print speed by adding
a PPD extracted from windoze driver cd. You can do that easily in localhost:631 cups interface.

I have a very old and solid Siemens labeled Tally Genicom laser printer.

I have purged Hplip as described above and used [control center/hardware/print settings/add] on the other mentioned pc and the HP 4100N was detected and installed by ticking the 4100 laser printer box followed by ‘forward’, the printer was installed correctly and a test page produced. The only slight annoyance is the default paper size is Letter and not A4, however the printer itself detects the options clash and invites the user to put things right.

To sum up, I can see no useful reason to install Hplip, the software that comes with the antiX release copes properly with both the Laserjet 4100N and the HP PSC 1510 MF unit, on both my PCs.

Lastly I am not so sure that printing is very slow at all. The lengthy waits for the printer to receive the formatted print job are now not very lengthy at all in fact are usually immediate unless the document is a complex pdf file, the 5 or more minutes wait I was having are now not occurring. The printer runs at expected speed once it has got hold of the job.

          Congrats!
Most of my printers are HP but I have not used HPlip. Long time ago I did but found no advantage or reason to use. All my printers are ethernet connected though, with fixed IP addresses…
