Yes, must have been me.
Running antiX-17_386-full on Acer Aspire One, AOA150, with Intel Atom N270.
Installed stock system, setup IceWM, then from long usage and habit, I installed Xfce4-Lite which works fine.
My nagging problem is that now back in IceWM I can’t change the wallpaper background.
Worse than that, in antiX Control Center > Desktop > Wallpaper: does nothing.
Neither does Menu > Applications > Preferences > Wallpaper does nothing either?I suppose Xfce4-Lite stepped all over some scripts. I would like to know what and why? And if I can fix it without re-downloading the ISO again, since I seem to have misplaced the original 🙁 Made a snapshot after Xfce was running. Recovering SSD space.
At any rate, Xfce4-Lite probably shouldn’t do that. Just something else for the ToDo List.

::Hmm perhaps you can post the apt history for installing xfce? You are correct in that it should not have caused any problems… but perhaps there is a package that was removed.
Other than that perhaps an old bug showed up mysteriously again. Maybe try running wallpaper.py in the terminal and see what it says

::I installed Xfce LiteI wonder what, exactly, is “Xfce Lite”?
No package (or metapackage) “linux-lite” found in antiX repositories nor in debian repositories.a rule out consideration:
It’s not an icewm-min session, right?Toward attempting a fix, I would try reinstalling any packages with icewm in the name
and/or packages antiX*desktop in the name, and/or antiX*session in the package nameMarch 5, 2018 at 7:14 pm #7343Anonymous

::I know what you broke. Because I have done it. /usr/local/bin is being ignored. Because control center uses those scripts.
Not sure how you did it. But you installed systemd in AntiX. Systemd defaults to using /usr/bin and totally ignores /usr/local/bin.

::Oh, I hope I didn’t install systemd, surely not. 🙁
Apologies for the name, yes. I installed Xfce4-lite via the package installer.
Currently internet challenged. Access via cell phone. Connecting with Hotspot sucks MB too fast.
$ wallpaper.py
says
File usr/local/bin/wallpaper.py, line 532, in <module> Var(). read()
File usr/local/bin/wallpaper.py, line 73, in read with open (Var.USER_HOME+/.desktop-session/desktop-code, “+var.display, r) as f:
IOError: [Errno 2] No existe el fichero o directorio: /home/richard/. desktop-session/,desktop-code.0Ok, I left out some quotes but it sounds like something got mangled.
Software, hardware, ?BTW:
$ sysctrl
Not found$ systemd –help
Not found.Thanks for ideas.
I’ll let it run awhile and see if more errors develop. This is a test box.Appreciate other ideas.

::@rokytnji,
Curious. About /usr/local/bin
Note: Can’t imagine what I got that could cause a problem,
I’ll watch it for a while.
In case it misbehaves even more.Thanks to all for your thoughts.

::If you post the output of
sudo cat /var/log/apt/history.logyou can see, if something got removed during the xfce installation

::This attached text file might help too it shows what xfce-lite installs. It suggests
systemd but don’t pull it in. Sorry about my post earlier I was looking in synaptic
not package installer.And I meant xfce4 and xfwm4 packages when I said base install.March 6, 2018 at 1:22 am #7364Anonymous
::(I wonder what, exactly, is “Xfce Lite”?)
oops, I’m not up to speed on the label names displayed within packageinstaller. So apology me —} youThe pre-installed /etc/apt.preferences.d/00systemd
file prevents systemd from being “accidentally” installed.
So, unless you’ve AsRoot edited or deleted that file, you can set aside worrying about that possibility.The following NEW packages will be installed: [...] thunar thunar-data thunar-volman [...]Hmm, doesn’t the thunar file manager have the ability to also manage the desktop?
Close any visible instances of thunar, then check the output of “sudo ps_mem.py” or htop
~~ if the output indicates “thunar –daemon” is running, maybe that daemon is grabbing control of the desktop icons and wallpaper?March 6, 2018 at 3:45 am #7367Member

::Are you using lightdm or another login manager?
I ask because as the error says you are missing the desktop code file. (I ASSume that the comma is a typo)
[Errno 2] No existe el fichero o directorio: /home/richard/. desktop-session/,desktop-code.0
My guess from that is slim is not being used and as a result is not invoking desktop-session. You can ” fix” it by making that file with the contents of “icewm”. Meanwhile I will see if I can fix the wallpaper app to load a default desktop when a code is not available.Computers are like air conditioners. ::@linuxdaddy, I’ll check the list of items installed this afternoon. Xfce4-lite just brings in the most usually installed applets along with the base.
@caprea, I’ll get to the log file this afternoon
@skidoo, I’ll be looking at Thunar this afternoon also. Glad to hear there is a sentinel to prevent systemd from loading.
@Dave, to the best of my recollection LightDM is not installed. On 32bit MX I usually try to eliminate some of the login eye candy of LightDM. But stranger things have happened. As above, more info this afternoon.
NOTE: All the other parts of antiX Control Center that I’ve tried, seem to be working.
Thanks, Richard.
