Something is wrong, I can’t install SoftMaker Freeoffice from the package installer.
      Any solution?

        Yes.
Assuming you are using antiX 64bits, download this:
-Using your Web browser, download this file:
        https://www.freeoffice.com/download.php?filename=https://www.softmaker.net/down/softmaker-freeoffice-2021_1044-01_amd64.deb

        – Open your file manager to the folder where you saved the .deb file (ex: Downloads)
        – antiX menu > Terminal
        – On the terminal type this command and leave a space after the last word:
        sudo apt install
        – drag and drop the .deb file you downloaded to the terminal window and press enter. If asked to, enter your password

Freeoffice should install and it’s icons should be available in antiX menu…

        P.

          Alternatively, follow this:

          https://www.freeoffice.com/en/service/tips-and-tricks/linux

I don’t know if they provide a 32 bit version

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Now I’m at home with a 32bit system, there seems to be no 32bit version as far as I can see…

Indeed, as far as I can read there is no 32bit version.
Perhaps you could specify it in the package installer.

              Thanks, Anti.

Seems like an older 32bit version deb is available here –

Parlty OT- is there a way to get Package Installer to install that 32bit version on antiX 32bit and the current 64bits in antiX 64bits?
I’m a LibreOffice user since the Dark Ages (well, since a very old OpenOffice release, at least), but FreeOffice loads much faster than LibreOffice, particularly in very old devices, it’s lightning fast… Being closed source does not mean that it’s a bad piece of software, just that it has bad licensing… 🙂

                    Thank you, Anti!!!
Yes, now is installed but Freeoffice crashes unfortunately.

I had to do install –fix-missing because libgl-mesa-glx. Maybe something is not compatible.

I can really use Libreoffice. It’s not a problem if I can’t install it.

                      Hi Aleph Sev,
From softmaker forum which is extremely helpful. The thread I found applies to 32 Bit.

                      1. Open a terminal and run “textmaker18 -debug” # in the softmaker forum post only 1 minus sign shown.
                      2. When the issue occurs, everything until that moment will be recorded into /root/SoftMaker/Settings/tmlog.txt
                      3. Please send us that file
                      4. optional (more detailed): strace -f textmaker18 2>output.txt
                      5. also, please also send us the file: /etc/mtab (this shows the mounted volumes)
                      Top

It is impossible for me to debug.
I have written the problem in the SoftMaker forum.
                        Thanks Moddlt!

Unfortunately, it seems that SoftMaker is no longer interested in the 32bit version:

As it seems there is a lib incompatibility I am wondering whether the available softmaker 32 bit version will
run on an older antiX, maybe try 19.4 on a live stick.

Unfortunately I have no usable 32 bit device so can not meaningfully test. The package may run on my box due
compatibility packages but fail on pure 32 bit, or other way around, run on older antiX on an older device.

Regarding libreoffice on older device you can make it start slightly faster using the –norestore option plus setting
HideEula=1 Logo=0 in the sofficerc file, that can be found in libreoffice/programm.
Easiest way to see where LO package is installed is to use synaptic which shows installed files and more importantly
where they are installed to. Knowing that It will possibly help you many times later.

Maybe post to softmaker that antiX is a debian derivative and that many persons can not afford newer computers.

Please put a copy here, I can contact softmaker in German and remind them that even here in rich germany 30%
of the population live in poverty, that is a rising figure in local statistics along with jobless, homeless
                              suicide and criminality..

                              I did Moddlt 😉

                              Nice to greet you, SuperTech.

Antix is simply a Debian derivative, so in theory it is supported by you.

About the 32bit version: Just a reminder that many people can’t afford to buy new hardware, and I believe that with little effort you could maintain a 32bit version, for example for people with few resources, educational centers with old hardware or charities. That’s your decision, you can either throw away the 32bit version or give it some good use.
                              Regards.

@aleph_sev Thanks, I changed my post a bit, but still stand to it.

pls try to run on the vers 19 antiX which is still supported, that may work around the issue.

Softmaker is pretty unusual as they do care about users much more than big corporations, will see how they react.
MS is so dominant and agressive that softmaker may have borderline cash flow = can not afford to care.
If we could report back the package will run on an older version of antiX they may be more willing to help.

I have installed SM on Antix19 and it works perfectly.
The problem must be with the new version of Debian.
