HTOP just after start-up. This ogre eats memory. However, it runs smoothly on my laptop with my old usb stick from 2010.

Favorite applications and I discover that it is translated into French. Thanks to the developers for pushing the translations.

          No screen tearing with Gnome.

I would have to test it with my other desktop which has an NVDIA card. As a reminder, a compton is useless with NVIDIA. If the solution existed with the “nouveau” driver, it would please many people for years…

It’s not just here that people don’t like Gnome, from what I’ve seen on other forums it appears a lot of people don’t like it. I do quite like it so may give this a try when I get chance, although I was previously put off Gnome.

When I first tried Manjaro some time ago it was with the Gnome desktop, and I had a problem with Audacity music editor. The cursor didn’t move when you were playing a track and there was no vertical line across the track to show where you were. So I changed to the XFCE version of Manjaro, and the problem disappeared.

Some time later I tried out Mageia, also with Gnome, and had the exact same problem with Audacity. Again, when I switched to Mageia XFCE the problem vanished. I didn’t pursue things any further, so I don’t know if this was all some weird coincidence, or if there’s something about Gnome that Audacity doesn’t like.

All the same, it’ll be interesting to give antiX with Gnome a spin.

                Hi wallon,
here icewm works very well, if you love lumbering memory hog gnome fine

page after page of flashy screenshots, for us here not so fine.
For flashy desktops a few users have plasma, faster lighter more flashy usable and
                configurable than gnome ever was

We use a mix of old and some very new computers, the big difference, newer devices
need a newer kernel and often newer NVidia drivers and are faster than fast.

Writer and Calc on the same screen.
Very comfortable to copy and paste.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Here, Gnome has put a tab on the left and a tab on the right.

Well, that was an experiment. I did it with what’s in the Debian repositories. I know it’s not the latest version of Gnome.
I didn’t open the testing or sid repositories. I didn’t go to GITHUB sites to compile a bunch of code. I just used what’s in the normal repositories.
But what a great adventure, antiX with Gnome and without any SNAP!
