We shouldn’t be afraid to ask people to invest some of their own time and effort into resolving the issues they have, but it isn’t that difficult to be nice about it.

      Well said.
I have usually found Linux forums to be constructive and helpful–especially AntiX and Puppy. On the other hand, StackExchange seems a bit like a “toxic community”: any oversight or mistake and someone WILL burn you.

“However, one of the biggest obstacles that any new Linux user will find difficulty in surmounting is the toxic community the ecosystem has built around itself.”

For many years I have told people they should pick a Linux distro based on the forums.

Happy new year everyone! Just a brief visit. I’m okay. Enjoying retirement. Keeping busy. Spending more time with my dog.

I personally think that antiX and MX Linux users benefit from two of the best forums.

For people who are interested in trying something much different, EndeavourOS is the very first Arch Linux distribution that’s given me at least two years of reliable updates and performance; MORE good news: they have an even more active forum than ours; most people are 1) helpful, and 2) there’s even a specific section for jokes; good community there too!

So there’s THREE I can think of; PCLinuxOS users are generally helpful too, so that’s 4.

This is funny that you are appearing here on this thread,@BitJam. I always enjoyed your support here, which was at all times friendly, spot on and never had a problem explaining anything to a newbie I was and still am.Behind the scenes you have always been a true example for me of what support on a forum should look like.
~ Anyway, it’s also nice that you now allow yourself time with the dog.
