Hi, I have been using Linux for a couple of years now but still got loads to learn. Mostly 64bit computers. I would like to install AntiX on my very old 32bit (PAE) hp530 laptop, here is output for $ lscpu ….

I see it has the ¨pae¨ flag. I wasn´t sure what this all meant so I asked my best friend google…

PAE is a processor feature that enables x86 processors to access more than 4 GB of physical memory, and is used mainly (only?) by 32-bit processors.

Would AntiX run on this processor?

        Heck, yes!
        No question. 🙂

It should run like new again, in my opinion. I’m posting this from my 10-year-old Dell Mini-9, and it runs as well or better than it did with Windows back then.

I’m running antiX on my old Thinkpad T60. I got a 120 GB SSD from Bestbuy for $22 US and it runs great!

My Mini-9 has only 1 GB RAM, and thats plenty to run antiX from the hdd. And it only has a 15GB SSD! Crazy, but it’s plenty! I think you’ll love it!

Let us know how it goes. 😉

How much RAM does it have?
Like I mentioned, this computer has 1 GB, but I also have a (nearly) 20-year old computer (with 256 MB RAM). I can’t use it for daily work, but it can get by in a pinch. (I only mention that to encourage you that, basically: if it turns on, it will run antiX.)

Sorry, I forgot to mention I have increased the RAM to 2GB.

My main reason for asking thus question was that I read this comment online….

“The 32 bit version uses a non-pae kernel”

                Taken from here…

                https://antixlinux.com/author/anticapitalista/

So I was thinking my laptop wouldn’t be able to run it.

Oh. That just means that an older, lower-spec machine than yours can use it (basically). Yours should run it like a champ! (Non-PAE kernel should work on yours without problems. My old Mini-9 is PAE as well, and runs great on the default kernel, though it is super easy to change kernels down the road if you ever want to.)
