      Hi!

      The IceWM global keybindings, as defined in ~/.icewm/keys, to launch applications stops working intermittently. Accidently I discovered that hovering the cursor above the workspace buttons in the toolbar and using the mouse wheel to scroll between different workspaces restores the keybindings functionality. This error happens more or less everyday and usually several times, so its quite common. Anyone else get this error? Any solutions?

      Using the latest version of antiX and rox-icewm desktop.

      cheers

        to ruleout ROX as a factor, logout and choose a plain “icewm” (or “min-icewm”) session

        to ruleout a corrupted keys file, use “diff” or “cmp” command:
        diff /etc/skel/.icewm/keys ~/.icewm/keys
        …or
        mv ~/.icewm/keys ~/.icewm/keys_BAK && cp /etc/skel/.icewm/keys ~/.icewm/keys

        try using a different mouse, to ruleout the possiblity of a faulty (sticky release) microswitch within the device

          I have noticed that when I have a pulldown menu open in the browser, for example, many other keys don’t work.

          I wonder if you are having the problem under similar circumstances?

            Hi!

            BobC, I haven’t noticed any such correlation. It’s mainly when I quit a program, hit the keybinding to open a new program, that it takes a moment before I realize nothing is happening. I’ll give skidoo’s suggestions a try.

            Skidoo, thanks for the tips!

              iceWM?
              Could this be a symptom / byproduct of enabling “sloppy mouse focus” or “quiet sloppy focus” ?

              Hmmm, no collisions are apparent from a quick check of antiX19 /etc/skel/.icewm/keys

                I can confirm that when using rox-icewm no keybindings work when the icewm “start” menu is open. But thats unfortunately unrelated to the issue I originally described. I’ll continue to investigate.

                  I’m not an expert on the diff command but there’s nothing out of the ordinary here, as far as I can tell.

                  $ diff /etc/skel/.icewm/keys ~/.icewm/keys
