Hello Forum,
when I use IceWM without desktop icons, I can’t switch workspaces scrolling the mousewheel over the desktop, although UseMouseWheel=1 is set in preferences.
Is this feature not available in antiX?August 10, 2022 at 7:47 am #87037ModeratorBobC
::On mine, Ctrl+Alt+MouseWheel cycles through taskbar windows, but only within the workspace. I have never tried this before because I don’t usually have a mouse. I would suggest trying it with IceWM desktop (not Rox-IceWM) with stock flashdrive version of antiX 21 that has not been updated to see if its an issue that has been introduced recently.
I have the following in prefoverride:
# Support mouse wheel UseMouseWheel=1 # 0/1 # Enable mouse wheel cycling over workspaces and task buttons in taskbar TaskBarUseMouseWheel=1 # 0/1August 10, 2022 at 8:14 am #87039Member

::Hi BobC,
this is not a new issue, but I haven’t used IcwWM for a long time and thought maybe there is a trick to get it working.

::“Enable mouse wheel cycling over workspaces and task buttons in taskbar”
I think you have to interpret this literally. Try scrolling the mousewheel while hovering over the workspace buttons in the taskbar. I dont use a taskbar so I cant test it for you, but if I recall correctly this was the way to do it.

Scrolling over workspace switcher changes workspace, scrolling over taskbar buttons cycles through the windows on current workspace.
This works, but scrolling over desktop does not change workspace, like I’m used to in JWM, XFCE and KDE Plasma.
I found this – could it be that IceWM is compiled without this patch?

I tried this on antiX JWM and it does not work.(same as IceWM)
What did you do to get it to work?Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::That’s a request from 2003
Was it dropped then, or why doesn’t it work 19 years later?

::Sorry, I have no idea. I wasn’t running IceWM back then. You are welcome to investigate.
I use 3 workspaces, but each workspace has its purpose, so depending on what I’m doing, I’m usually looking at only one at a time, and just click the workspace button at the bottom for the one I want.
