I created a zzzfm issue for it and included my createdesktopicon and removedesktopicon scripts, as well as my revised version of the code to fix the On Insert function. My testing showed that the On Unmount and On Remove functions also are not able to pass the mount point to the script.

The way it works is that if the USB has a label, it gets used as the name on the Desktop, otherwise the name of the mount point is used.

I have no idea what you mean about “right click”. Whatever it does in that regard, it does. That functionality is part of the Desktop program, not what I worked on.

Hopefully the principals of zzzfm will get on to it sooner rather than later.

Desktop right click; just another pet peeve of mine. Every other OS I have ever used allows functionality there rather than repeating the menu.

Incidentally, that’s one of my favorite features of the antiX desktops — quick & easy access to the menu.

But if you ever feel more adventurous, you could install Lxde from the program installer. Lxde has that different right click functionality. It would then be added to the choices of desktops to choose. 😉

You can change this via zzfm > View > Preferences > Desktop (Unclick Right click shows WM menu)

I came up with a workaround, but it requires running the zzz-icewm desktop, installing 2 scripts, and adding configuration for Autorun Insert, Unmount and Remove to call the scripts. Hopefully the little demo video works…

Sorry, its too big to post. I wish I knew a way to convert a motion .gif to a smaller size, ie instead of 1920×1080 a shrunken size.

I resized it with:
gifsicle --resize 960x540 zzz-icewm_flashdrive_insert_and_remove.gif > zzz-icewm_flashdrive_insert_and_remove_s.gif

What the gif shows is that I inserted a flashdrive and it opened it in zzzfm. It also added an icon to the desktop when it did that, and you can see the icon when I go back to the desktop. I then right clicked it so you could see what other options it has. Then I removed the drive, and the icon was automatically removed from the desktop.

It also works for flashdrives with more than one volume as well as for multiple flashdrives at the same time. If they have no label the device name is used for the name.

I’m a little confused. I tried putting those 2 lines into the terminal, also with sudo but neither worked. Will you please give me ‘baby’ instructions like;
1. do this
2. do that
3. etc
BTW zzzfm no longer exists in the Desktop manager. I now apparently have zzzIceWM (looks the same to me).

It’s @Skidoo, the “father” or “director” of zzzFM as seen in this thread zzzFM file manager.

Bobc, you did a great job of displaying a shortcut icon (“.desktop” file) when the USB device is plugged in and mounted. Would it be possible to create a “.desktop” file containing the translation of the text that is displayed in this shortcut icon?

Anticapitalista, this is an interesting feature that could be used by default in antiX, but it depends on your approval or not.

Note: I also need a tutorial to be able to implement this excellent solution that works for the desktops that are managed by zzzFM.

Bobc, ficou excelente o trabalho que você fez de exibir um ícone de atalho (arquivo “.desktop”) quando o dispositivo USB está conectado e montado. Por acaso seria possível criarmos um arquivo “.desktop” contendo a tradução do texto que é exibido neste ícone de atalho?

Anticapitalista, este é um rescurso interessante que poderia ser utilizado por padrão no antiX, mas isso depende da sua aprovação ou não.

Obs.: Eu também preciso de um tutorial para conseguir implementar esta excelente solução que serve para as áreas de trabalho que são gerenciadas pelo zzzFM.

I would be very happy to see the return of skidoo, but don’t expect it. I am grateful for all the advice, clues and code he gave us all.

I updated the issue page with instructions on how to install/configure the work around shown above. If you find any problems with it, let me know.

I am running my system with automount and autoopen on. You might want that too, or maybe not.

Marcelo, What it creates is a Link to where your flashdrive is mounted, showing optionally whatever label you gave it, and there is no .desktop file, and no text to display or read, so there is nothing to translate.

PS: And yes, I hope anticapitalista adds this to the default setup for zzzfm. I do not expect him to change the default desktop to zzz-icewm, as that would invalidate much documentation and confuse anyone trying to follow videos or instructions that exist. It not hard to change your desktop to zzz-icewm, and its not hard to change it back to rox-icewm either. That is the beauty of antiX’s flexible desktops arrangement. You can run what you like best.

Sorry, I did what I could to keep it short and provided easy copy/paste instructions. If you can’t follow them, there isn’t much else I can do. Maybe try it on a fresh flashdrive to learn/practice and make sure it all works, and then try it on your main system.

I have updated desktop-defaults-zzzfm-antix deb that incorporates Bob’s changes.
Should hit the repos soon.
All user would have to do is copy /etc/skel/.config/zzzfm/session file to /home/username/.config/zzzfm/
