::Hi everyone. fortunately I don’t have wi-fi problems on my antiX 19. But did anyone with those problems tried what anticapitalista said in this post?
https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/gufw-and-default-4-9-kernel/#post-31474
Running with default antiX-19 series, running sudo ufw enable gives an error.
Previously, we suggested upgrading to a 4.19 or later kernel.However, it may not be necessary. Instead just switch to using legacy iptables.
# update-alternatives –set iptables /usr/sbin/iptables-legacy
# update-alternatives –set ip6tables /usr/sbin/ip6tables-legacyCould someone confirm this actually does do the job.
Also, for those of you with connmann wifi issues, try the above. It *might* work to get you connected.

::Hello All,
It was mentioned elsewhere that broadcom wifi devices could be a problem. Can you tell me how to tell what model wifi card I have?
Thanks

::Thanks Caprea. According to the output of that command, I do not have broadcom. Whew! One less thing to worry about.

::Hi PPC,
Thanks for the detailed instructions. They are very helpful for a newbie like me.
I tried the commands shown. It needed sudo and also two dashes before “set” but it did accept the command, saying “using /usr… in manual mode.” And a similar message for the ip6 tables.
I got the same errors with connman ( through the connman gui).
Next I will try connman through the CLI, per instructions from semicynic.
Thank you for continuing to work on this with me.
We’ll get it working sometime.

::OK, I have tried to get connman to work via the command line using instructions from semicynic. Same errors. Attached are my steps. I hope I haven’t missed any steps.
If so, please let me know.
Thanks again to everyone for your thoughts.

::To start gf has wifi problems since Dec 15. We now have Jan 11 and no complete solution.
How many new users lost in that time, how many longer term users moved on ?. Without reasons below do you ernestly think
I or most of my group would still be here if a working solution was about 20 Minutes away with another distro. Even
swallowing shitty D would not stop the kids. They are studying and have to produce results. Daily.I kicked Broadcom off my netbook. All other devices in our group will follow as far as we are able.
Why: Broadcom has always been problematic on Linux.
I am sick of wasting time with it. Reserchers here in Germany were asked to stop revealing how insecure Broadcom really is.
By the Authoritys. It is shitty buggy closed source devious crap. Check out last CCC conference for more info if you wish.We do not have a device with the same card as gf. So how to move toward figuring out what is wrong. A lot of suggestions have
been made by forum members. A lot of things tried.
Below is not asking to leave Antix. It is perhaps a way to figure this crap out and fix it.Will WIFI work in MX ? Devuan ?. Debian ? Sparky ?, if in none Mint ? Ubuntu ?, if no go Manjaro.
Please if you are able try a hardware usb dongle, if that works and it is not too difficult change your card.If any of those checks give you working wifi going through differences should give insights which can lead to a solution.
Again this is not in any way a criticism of you or the the devs nor any of the members trying to help. Without exactly the same hardware as
yours it is guessing rather than methodical fault finding. Finding systems which work and comparing with a system which does not to figure
out why is ages old, why, it works.January 11, 2020 at 3:56 pm #31596Anonymous
::Hi Moddit,
I am not sure if you are addressing me? Sorry. I am a newbie and trying everything people are suggesting. It seems like there might be a few other people who have diffculties with wifi in AntiX 19 as well?Just in case you are addressing me, wifi worked fine for me in AntiX 17.
I can get wifi to work in AntiX 19 if I attach network wire, install ceni, disconnect network wire, remove connman, add the symlink for resolv.conf. Then, the wireless works. The problem then is that the symlink breaks when I reboot.If I could retain the symlink over reboots, I would be fine.
As it is, after reboot I’d have to do the symlink again, then reconfigure my wifi in ceni again. That is a hassle. In version 17 it worked just fine.I am happy to help solve this issue by reinstalling and testing as often as you’d like, with whatever versions of AntiX needed. This is the first time I have had a chance to really help with a distro on an issue that I an experiencing. And I think AntiX is a fabulous disto. I really want to help the devs to continue to grow it.
: )My notebook is 32-bit and last spring 2019, I came to AntiX from Lubuntu when they announced they are dropping 32-bit. I was so happy that AntiX has non-pae since I have a Pentium M processor. I have 2GB of ram so I think that is too minimal for MX. I do not have a wireless dongle/usb to test with. And according to that command I ran, I do not have broadcom.
Again, I am happy to run any commands and provide any terminal output that may help. Or if you’d like me to do some directory comparisons, I can do that too.
I am a newbie. If you give me the CLI instructions, would debugging logs help? Just tell me the commands and let me help.I hope this clears things up.
Happy to help

::Hi again,
Also, with old notebooks, there is always the possibility that the wifi hardware has failed. But I did a full reinstallation of AntiX 17 about 2 weeks ago and wireless was fine on that.
I will try to explore the differences in the directories between 17 and 19.1 for my computer.
Thanks for keeping at this with me.

::Hi, there is no denying that we have been through a “get on the Internet problem”.
I am not looking for perfection myself, however, finding out how to make something work is what I have been reduced to.
My solution has been to use a modem with wire sockets and connect direct. It works and I realise it is good bye to wifi.
The forces behind all these problems can do what they want, looking at the state of the world, they can all keep it.
Kind regards to you all.

::Hi Cojos,
Thanks for your two posts. Yes I came to Linux when XP died on this notebook and I have been using Linux ever since. The community makes the difference : )This has been a long forum thread. Could you give a short summary of when wifi has worked for you in AntiX or other distros?
Just in case your wifi card has failed, do you know when was the last time it worked?
And, can you give a short list of the things you’ve tried on AntiX 19 to get the wireless working?
Good to hear from you

::Hi all, this is not just for gf. The problem is wider.
I do not have conman installed so can not give step by step.
Everything in linux can be configured so my guess is you can point directly to your resolv.config rather than
relying on the disappearing link. Might not be conventional but worth trying to see if you can reboot with working wifi.For any user with wifi problems Still suggest counter checking with other distro, to see if wifi is stable.
If so Software or configuration problem, if still not working highly probable that we are facing a BIOS or hardware
problem. Sometimes a BIOS Battery change which also gives hard reset to the motherboard fixed problems.
Then looking for differences in setup structure may teach us what is wrong.@gf Mx will run on my oldest P Box with 1 gig ram. Slow especially live but plenty fast enough for testing.

::Hallo Anti and gf,
in case of gf wireless works when he sets a symlink for resolv.conf
when he reboots the symlink disappears and he must setup wireless again.I am thinking he is symlinking in a virtual filesystem created at boot.
Not sure about the workings of udev but in his case the problem may well be in persistent net rules
The card gf is using should and does work ok unless he reboots.
His inxi showed Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network driver: ipw2200 -
