On a tech news site I discovered about Impervious Browser – https://www.impervious.ai
It’s supposed to be a chromium based browser with privacy features that include P2P, decentralized messaging and video calls, document sharing and payments- I just installed it but I have to say I’m still scratching my head about it – it’s supposed to be “decentralized” but it also allows you to log in to (Musk’s) Tweeter… Hum… What the “frak”? (Boy, a “BattleStar Galactica” reference, I’m getting old)For now it’s all a bit confusing, I think I’ll leave this one to the experts, or sharper minds than mine… If it’s any good, and does what I think it says it does, it could be a nice addition to or Package Installer – independence from corporate overlords is right within antiX philosophy…

::Tried it out for a few seconds. Kinda disconcerting they won’t let you surf without giving login name and password.
Then seeing a new folder in ~/home and then another hidden folder in ~/home.Might be Ok for certain type of folks. I guess I am not one of them. So deleted everything.

::@rokytnji – that confused me too at first – you do not have to give a username and a password to use the browser- you can open a new tab and use it to navigate to any webpage you want- but the first tab is used to access their services (chat/office/etc)- you basically have to create a password of at least 8 characters- the browser creates a id file (a text document) that you select where you want it to be saved- then you “log in” to their services using only the said password…- no registration required- it’s all stored in you system, if I understand correctly how it works, and shared over P2P in real time, if you want to share the documents you create in their word processor, etc…

::I opened a new tab and it kept nagging me. Might have been a bad download. Happens a bunch to me out here.
No worries. At least I gave it a go. I don’t do conventional office work or have contacts with money out side of my parking lot.
I can see how it may be of use to others though.
So no big deal here.Sometimes I drive a crooked road to get my mind straight.

::Hi all, please take a look at
https://github.com/imperviousai/imp-browserLooking at the build instructions
Seems Its a firefox fork with tarty lipstick. No privacy policy, geolocation compiled inWill definitely stick with serious projects, UngoogledChromiumk and Librewolf.

::Yep, I think I agree with all your opinions… It sounds like a good idea, at least on paper…
Edit: for some reason I assumed it was built on chromium… I wonder if their build instructions would work with Librewolf… but I won’t even bother trying…

::Did some more digging this morning, still highly sceptical.
Maybe a security researcher like Martin Brinkmann of GHacks will one day give it a check,
until then I will stick with alternatives.. -
