::3-7, 11,13, possibly 15, 17 are all due to the failed install.
for 19, right click the volume icon preferences and enable the keys in the preference dialog
12 – type reboot for the login name. also works with shutdown
10 – I have no idea what you mean hear. boot text should scroll either on live or installed.
9 – ok thanks.
8 – ok thanks.
1 and 2 – these are actually separate programs from the installer, setting apt sources and keyboard. we could probably remove the keyboard one since its now in the installer proper on the first screen.

::actually, most of your issues are due to a failed install.
Not to be pedantic, but the install didn’t really fail it did successfully perform most of its work, and I explained how I continued on my own to pretty easily (for someone already familiar with linux) correct the hiccups.

I’m not going to argue about what you consider a failed install vs. what I consider a failed install.
the installer failed. and many of the issues you indicated as problems are not issues when the installer completes its job. ergo, the root problem in those cases is the failed installer.
what happened, as anti noted in his tests, is that the installer crashed during grub install phase. you never get a completion message or actually any kind of error, which in this case the user doesn’t know to look for because the crash is pretty sudden and could conceivable be interpreted as completed by the end user.
you also never get the user creation screens, which account for most of the other reports.
this could be related to the window manager, or something in our code. the code in this area of the installer hasn’t changed in a while though, so its a bit of a head scratcher .
I really appreciate the feedback on the installer.

::I’m interested, firstly, in making sure the installer worked correctly. The rest can wait.
I tested 64 bit full in VBox and the installer crashed after setting up grub so I ran it again and it completed and re-booted into installed OS without error.
hmm…sounds like something odd is going on.
I can’t look right now, but what version of libcmd is on the antiX 17.2?
d_o – libcmd 0.18.2.1 is on the iso

::hmm… we have libcmd 0.18.6 in the mx repo. I don’t remember what changed in it.
here’s a link to the deb…maybe that will help.

Thanks for the tips about #12 and #19.
For #12, maybe overlay the wallpaper with a small-font text message in a corner somewhere, or near the login entry box, to let the user know the existence of those options. Other login managers have icons or function keys for those features, so the difference wasn’t intuitive to me.
For #19, why not enable the key bindings set for the volume controls by default?
Regarding #10, what I meant is that when booting from the live media, the scrolling text is displayed prettily, in a frame and if I’m remembering correctly also with a logo in the background. When booting from the hard disk, after performing the install and my ‘fix’ for grub, the scrolling text displayed in the usual plain linux fashion.

::11,13,14,15,16,17 due to failed install
12. type reboot or halt and then the root password. This is a weakness of slim login manager.
18. Will consider this
19. Right click on volume icon and choose preferences. You can set them here.20. – I don’t know what you mean

20. – I don’t know what you mean
21.- Does it?#20: Using firefox-esr version 52 and noscript configured to allow only ‘antixforum.com’, accessing any forum url causes firefox to prompt the user with two pop-up boxes asking whether to allow canvas fingerprinting. Wikipedia probably has an article about canvas fingerprinting; basically, its a sneaky form of user-tracking that was developed as an escalation in the war between privacy people (adblock, noscript, etc) and snoops (eg. advertisers).
#21: Yup. That is what I’m reporting.

::@anticapitalista and @dolphin_oracle: I have a simple suggestion for an immediate action – either disable the links for the 17.2 isos, or better yet, make a clear note on the download page and on the main page that the iso works but has a problem with the installer.
If you don’t, then most “fly-by” users (most of us start out that way) will experience the problem, and respond by saying to themselves “not worth the effort” and silently moving on, maybe never to return. Very few uncommitted users report errors, and very few will bother searching the forum for this thread.

::Thanks for your advice.
Now, can you post inxi -v8 as requested.

::dolphin_oracle, I just installed the libcmd-deb you linked to the live-stick, but this didn’t change anything.
I also tried installing from the livestick on another laptop, no change.October 8, 2018 at 7:27 am #12434Forum Admin

::caprea – how did you install the iso to the usb stick?
Can you try with another stick? (or even via dvd if its not too much trouble).Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

When did you ever request that? Anyway, I’m not sure that I can right now, or whether it would do any good – that machine is now running another OS and will be busy for a few days acting as a temporary server for another project. Does it really matter? Do you have a specific question, or are you just asking in a shot-in-the-dark “checklist” way?
