Hello,
I just installed antiX 19 32bit on an older PC, with a 1920×1080 monitor. I am using the IceWM desktop, and don’t like the height of the taskbar on the 1920×1080 monitor. I managed to get the IceWM taskbar height increased by increasing the size of the theme’s start icon, but the (tray?) holding the volume control, status icons, and the clock didn’t change size with the taskbar. I can increase the font size of the clock up to about 20 points, and anything above that cuts off the tops and bottoms of the clock digits. I want to go up to 26 or 28 points. The (tray?) is clearly some kind of a container in the taskbar.
My question is:
How can I increase the size of the container that holds the volume control, status icons, and the clock?
Thanks. rfinco..

::$ apropos icewm
$ man icewm-preferences
Based on what I found when searching for tray within the manpage, sounds like you should edit ~.icewm/preferences and increase the numeric value declared on the “TrayIconMaxHeight=” line.

::@skidoo: Thanks for the quick reply. Changing the TrayIconMaxHeight option from 32 (default) to 128 (maximum) did not affect the height of the space (tray?) holding the volume control, status icons, and clock. However, it did greatly increase the height of the whole taskbar. The tops and bottoms of the clock digits are still being clipped at font sizes greater than 20 points.
I had already increased the height of the taskbar by increasing the size of the start icon. I increased it again, but that also didn’t change the height of the clock space.
There seems to be confusing terminology about what “tray” means. I have thought of the “tray” as a (kind of) independent space contained in the taskbar for status and similar info.

::Yeah, it’s all right and true, but I can see the problem of the OP.
The trayicons (time, date, volumeicon etc.) on the right side are limited to the size of 20 points and fonts are cut off.

::@caprea: You hit on exactly what my issue is. Thanks for the graphic evidence.
I have been using the default antiX 19 theme (BlueDay-Medium). I switched themes from BlueDay-Medium to BlueDay-Large, which resulted in increased font size for the menu items and title bars, but the task bar height remained the same, and there was no change to the tray.
I increased the height of the taskbar by increasing the size of the start icon, the same as I had done with the medium theme.
I then increased the font size of the clock, and it behaves exactly the same as it did with the medium theme, clipping the tops and bottoms of the clock digits at any font size greater than 20 points.

::I use search in geany to find the proper word like WorkPlaceSwitcher to make any changes in ~/.icewm/preferences
The search function leads me to the proper line in geany but the hard part is picking the right word and spelling for what you wanna edit.
like ‘WorkPlaceSwitcher’
Not sure of the search word for this thread.

::Have you tried the large in addition to these changes in preferences?
# Width of APM Monitor
TaskBarApmGraphWidth=12 # [1-1000]# Height of taskbar monitoring applets
TaskBarGraphHeight=28 # [16-1000]The pic shows the other things I changed. It didn’t help the volume icon., But the clock is at 22 in the pic…

::https://github.com/bbidulock/icewm/issues/74

man icewm-preferences in antiX 19 does mention TaskBarGraphHeight.
but adding a line into the …/BlueDay-Medium/default.theme file had no effect.
TaskBarGraphHeight=48
(I also tested using quotes around the value ~~ TaskBarGraphHeight=”48″)October 31, 2019 at 5:31 am #28790Moderator

::# Width of APM Monitor
TaskBarApmGraphWidth=12 # [1-1000]# Height of taskbar monitoring applets
TaskBarGraphHeight=28 # [16-1000]That’s it, BobC, you got it. Adding these to /.icwm/preferences makes it possible to increase the font size of the clock over 20.
BTW, if using such a high taskbar it maybe is recommended to activate the TaskBarShowCollapseButton=1 from .icewm/preferences.

::Fantastic!!! That did the trick! I now have a clock with a 28 point font displayed in the taskbar.
I changed TaskBarGraphHeight in ~/.icewm/preferences to 28, and that was all that was necessary to correctly display the clock with a 28 point font.
Making that change also increased the height of the status icons.
I did activate the Show/Collapse button for the taskbar. I don’t remember ever feeling a need to do that, so it remains to be seen whether or not I’ll find it useful.
Many thanks to you guys for finding the answer to this rather obscure problem.
I’ll mark this one solved.
