I have always installed the newest version of antiX and been able to keep home, but the new interface has me totally confused, and I have not been able to preserve home on a new installation.
What I have done is purchase a M2 toaster, and order a new m2 hard drive.
I install Antix on the new m2 hard drive, then later mount the toaster, and transfer the files I could not preserve when doing the new install. First time it happened I lost a good nunber of recent images of Granddaughter and Grandson that were not backed up. I have recovered most of the images asking son and daughter to send them via the android phone then email them to gmail which I can open in both phone and antiX.
Took a long time to cross check grandchildren images, with what I transfered to new hard dive from an old hard drive to the desktop computer. Yes this was my error not backig up files on 500 Gig m2 hard drive, but was a crazy amount of time to almost reconstruct the files I lost not being able to preserve home.
Several things I have a problem with in this experence.
1. do not know how to preserve home on new install.
2. can not mount Samsung Galaxy 10e phone to desktop do direct image transfers.
3. How to install droid messenger on desktop computer.I am slowly building a new desktop AMD Ryzen 7 5700g system and will do a new clean antiX install on a M2 hard drive, so should not have a home to preserve, but I need some hand holding to understand how to set up that proceedure…

::I almost always install with root (‘/’) and home (‘/home/’) in separate partitions.
When reinstalling via a live USB, I simply do not format the latter partition (as @RJP suggested) and select preserve home.February 25, 2023 at 4:16 pm #100634MemberRJP
::Time to recover files … I think.
