        1) Burn the antiX-21 core version to CD. It’s about 450 MB.
        2) Make a live-USB of the antiX-21 base version.
        3) Boot the computer with BOTH the usb plugged in & the cd inserted – making sure the computer will boot from CD before HDD, of course.
        4) At the boot screen, press F4 -> choose “from=usb” boot option.
        5) Erase the “splash=v” boot option from the text boot code line (you may not need to do this part, but I did).
        6) Press the ENTER key to boot…

antiX then boots to the BASE version. Run the installer & enjoy antiX! 🙂

And if that doesn’t work you can try my sub-700mb antiX Libre 32-bit respin: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/antix-libre-21-respin-less-than-700mb-isos-32-bit-pae-and-non-pae/

Won’t work with most non-Atheros wifi chips without finding some way to add the wifi firmware though, cause it’s an all libre software respin – no non-free firmware. But if it’s a desktop with an ethernet connection then it should work. Some people have found it works well with old computers with CD drives.

Would it be possible to install an old version, and upgrade it? 16.2 base is 548.5 MB, and still available at:

              https://sourceforge.net/projects/antix-linux/files/old/antiX-16/antiX-16.2_386-base.iso/download

                Hello Mevdor.

Welcome to antiX Linux and the forum.

I don’t know how to write in English and I send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything, if your native language is not English, please translate my original text in Brazilian Portuguese language directly into your language with the help of internet translators.

Try using the ISO “Remaster of antiX 21 Full 32-bit and 64-bit with Kernel 4.4.0-296“. Follow Christophe’s instructions again and try starting with the first option. If the screen goes blank or goes black again, restart and try with the “Safe Video Mode” option. If it still doesn’t work, you can try ISOs pseudo-antix-19 legacy bet3 com Kernel 4.4.0-264 that @Xecure built from “Build-iso”.

As your processor is a Pentium 3, use the 32-bit ISOs that have “386” in their name. If even with the ISOs I mentioned above it doesn’t start in graphical mode, we’ll need you to tell us the make and model of your motherboard.

                  then the monitor went asleep.

Give all of these actions a try if you’re not sure how your specific computer wakes up: Wiggle the mouse a few times, strike a few of the keys, and then press the power button once to get it going.

I tried “Remaster of antiX 21 Full 32-bit with Kernel 4.4.0-296“ – it didnt work, I tried “Safe Video Mode” it didnt work. I also tried Q40S linux (q4os-4.10-i386) and same thing happened – installed fine, after all the files were loaded screen goes blank and wont wake up. so I thin it’s the version of xwindows – I had lots of version of ubuntu on it and it worked fine.

I recommend you try the 32bit ISO pseudo-antix-19 legacy bet3 with Kernel 4.4.0-264 that @Xecure built from “Build-iso”.
If it doesn’t work, try older antiX ISO images 17.5 if it doesn’t work a 16. Keep in mind the Support ending end of June, 2022.

I kno I shuda done this first but when I did checksums for antiX-21_386-core.iso the md5 one was fine. but the sha256 which is:

                        4a221c230b87c62e938f165f797b9149832089d0ec1dab19c3ebc280c0ebb58f

didnt match – I got this:

                        3ce3d2f9622980f444638ebfb8d1824943d8dfde01b48fafe77a6b0d55fae6a3

I downloaded antiX-21_386-core.iso from a different server and the md5 and sha256 checksums were fine. but when I go to install it, after partitioning it hangs on “Downloading necessary file for formatting partitions”. the drive is 40gigs and I used it all for the partition, I made it primary and set it to ext4. thanks!

“The monitor went asleap” — Please, could you describe this a bit more detailed? When exactly went it sleep? If I guess correctly, this happens after installation has finnished and you try to boot the system the first time, then half way coming up?

Which resolution and h and v frequencies is your monitor capable to run with? Is it a tube monitor or an modern tft display? Tube monitors tend to go sleep when the frequency they get from the graphics card doesn’t match with their specs. While booting, the resolution is switched at some point when entering the X window to higher values. If your monitor can’t display them it will go sleep instead (while the antiX system is still running properly. Check this out with a different type of monitor if possible)

Another possibility is an issue with the graphics driver, not able to handle you model of graphics card properly, keeping X from being displayed.

So please let us know the manufacturer and model of your graphics card and monitor both if possible.

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

hey Robin – thanx for the post. the problem now is when I try to install antiX-21_386-core, after partitioning it hangs on “Downloading necessary file for formatting partitions” and does nothing.
